So Salon finally gets the truth: Kobayashi’s an over-the-hill loser who’s afraid to compete, so he’s making up excuses to avoid signing the contract. At least according to George Shea:
“It just doesn’t seem like he wants to be there. Kobayashi ushered in the modern era of competitive eating, but he has since had trouble keeping up the level of competition that he created. He lost three years in a row to Joey, and he lost one month ago on his own home turf.
So Kobayashi has fallen so far that he would no longer be a factor, what with new athletes who have lapped him, like Bob Shoudt, Patrick Bertoletti, Tim Janus and Ben Monson.
Thank god Kobayashi won’t have the opportunity to be humiliated by these powerhouses!
Sheesh, what a classless dick George Shea is.

MLE has been in existence for 9yrs. Most of the perks for the eaters came from the sponsors. 20% cash or mayble less came out of the Shea bank account to cover expenses for an eater or two of their choice. Those choices ranged from Badlands, Cookie, Hardy, Conti Joey, and a few others usually accompanied by an email “Keep this between us” Those days for all intent purpose are over but still linger on occasion .

Yes. Kobayashi is definitely washed up. His performance at Krystal last year demonstrated his ineffectual venerable skillset.
