Pat Bertoletti and Brian Seiken have been announced as expected entrants in the Day-Lee Foods World Gyoza Eating Championship in Los Angeles on August 20. update Rafu.com calls Sonya Thomas the contest headliner.

    I know it sounds far fetched but i think i can shake up the world win this event and pull a miracle on 34th st . Forget my practice run. I think i know how to win and no it wont entail hiding a bunch of dumplings in my fist like Dale Boone did in Russian Pelmeni 2 at Bryant Park in NYC Sept 2003

    And, no, beautifulbrian, you won’t win. Both Pat and Sonya will beat you with their mouths closed.

    And what is this about Stonie? I didn’t see Matt mentioned anywhere.

    Either way, you have just, if you REALLY are BB, that is, gone up about one eighth of an inch in my opinion of you because you put down World Loser Dale Boone.

    And why mention something that happened in 2003?

    Seiken will NOT win. Not against Pat and Sonya (and Matt???).

    This is just an observation, but I think it really gets underscored by the promotion of this event. Pat Bertoletti is clearly a better eater at most foods than Sonya Thomas. Bob Shoudt, is better at some food and is currently ranked higher than Sonya. Yet, the sponsors of the event, feature Sonya even when Pat throws his fork into the ring. This is not a dis, but I think people outside of being staunch competitive eating fans, really mostly only know Kobi, current Nathan’s champ Joey Chestnut, and Sonya that little “Black Widow” Asian girl. As the press release for this event points out, I think Bob and Pat could beat Sonya at every contest but she will always get the headline as the “eating sensation.” She is a draw. I guess the good news for Pat and Bob and any other MLE eaters is that her presence at an event will bring more high level attention to all the eaters. It does also portend good things ahead for Stephanie.

    Sonya is barely 100 pounds. Look at the size of Bob and Pat. Do you not think that might have something to do with it? If Sonya weighed 180 I don’t think she would get so much attention.

    Sonya is the headliner because she is the women’s title holder for Nathans. Pat and Bob didn’t do to the guys what Sonya did to the gals.

    2:10 am, you need more sleep. It is a fairly good guess that almost no eaters get flown anywhere except for Joey for appearances. Most are paying their way to contests and compete without expecting to break even, ever. Take your comment up personally with the eaters and spare us your middle of the night sillies. Sonya at gyoza will bring the crowds and more attention to everyone. The roster grows with a win-win for everyone. Unlike many other contest foods, gyoza is less likely to have problems for eaters in terms of preparation, temperature, etc. This should be a very exciting contest. Stonie is right up there with the very top eaters and making things even more interesting.
