Peter Dowdeswell to retire
NorthhamptonChron.com reports that British eater Peter Dowdeswell will honor his late wife’s request and retire from competitive eating. His final event will take place later today at the Sunnyside pub in Kingsthorpe. Dowdeswell had many eating records when Guinness discontinued their eating records section.
update In happier news about the spouse of a British competitive eater, Lisa reports that an article about living with her competitive eating husband appeared in a recent issue of “Pick Me Up” magazine. Lisa is the wife of Rob Burns, who was the British representative in the 2005 Nathan’s finals.

If he were so awesome, why did he not qualify for Nathan’s to represent his country in 2003, when the man that the UK sent over ate only 10 HDBs? at the Final Table? I was embarrassed FOR that guy.

Peter also owns many Records with Reckord Klub Saxonia out of New Lepsig Germany which works along Giunness .

Dowdeswell has some unbelievable records. 2 litres of beer in 6 seconds is impressive. 62 pancakes in 6 minutes is impressive. He could probable eat close to 40 HDB’s in his prime.
Guinness hasn’t really discountinued their eating records, they still list many of Dowdeswell’s records in the 2008 version. Most of the current Guinness eating records don’t look that impressive because they have weird and consticting rules like the most M&M’s eaten with a chopstick. It’s kinda lame but in a way those records do require more skill than just speed and capacity eating.

9/21/07-Chapman & Schlesinger invade Black Rock Tavern, Yaphank NY
Arnie “Chowhound” Chapman and Chris “The American” Schlesinger finished 1-2 at the Black Rock Tavern’s Chicken Wing Eating Contest on Thursday September 20th, 2007. Schlesinger finished with 80+ Chicken Wings in 12 minutes and Chapman ate so many chicken wings that they stopped counting after 100; Estimates put Chapman’s total at 115 Chicken Wings. Previous record for this monthly “Chowdown” was 67. Owner’s of the Black Rock Tavern and Chowhound also talked about the possibility of two-man Hamburger Eating Championships. Stay tuned
Isnt this the same two man team that couldnt finish a measly 3lb Burrito last year at Pineada’s

Sonya is really smart to stay in the IFOCE because the independents would all take turns beating her every contest and she would go off crying in a corner until she just couldnt take it anymore. Shes too much of a coward to face real competition.
