TheFeast.com reports that Spread Bagelry in Philadelphia has started a 13 pound bagel challenge in the hopes that Adam Richman of Man vs. Food will attempt it on October 8 after Yom Kippur is over.

    Damn, that looks tasty. The half of me that’s Jewish is drooling all over my keyboard. No way most competitive eaters could finish this one though. I’m surprised they didn’t make it a team challenge (even then that would still be formidable).

    This show is dumb. Restaurants are rolling out huge menu items specifically so that they can be featured on the show. There’s no sincerity or authenticity to any of the restaurants or menu items featured anymore.

    The bagel itself weighs 4 pounds. Toppings add the other 9 pounds.

    Anonymous makes a great point. I’ve visited several restaurants and the owner or manager eventually admits the whole point of inventing a challenge is to get on MvF. It’s all a publicity game. For them, it’s not about competitive eating or the like.
