    Hmmm for all you Kobi haters… seems like SI knows the real deal. This is bad for MLE. There not doing a article on any MLE “manufactured” champion are they?
    So in your face Shea punks. MLE your time of manipulating contest is thankfully nearing the end. More of the general public recognize Kobi than any other eater alive… that’s a fact. If he is to return to Nathans, as another poster states will happen, the contest will be the largest viewed show ever for Nathans regardless who is competing against.

    Koby would definitely be good for Nathan’s, and most CE/Nathan’s fans people would root for him to win, not because of anything negative toward Joey, but because of several other reasons:

    – He’s the most recognized face in all of CE—-the legend—-the icion;
    – Koby’s exciting to watch;
    – because of the harsh, unfair way he was treated at Nathan’s in 2010;
    – he’s the only person with a shot of topping Joey; and
    – people are bored with seeing the same person win for the last 5 years.

    Okay, what have I missed?

    Rhonda, you have hit the target on all points and could add more. But I do not think, regarding the earlier comment, that the magazine is choosing Koby over MLE. I do think that he has a very smart manager who will continue to assist him as he lives as an independent eater. The future is unknown, we are all speculating about what MLE or Nathans might or might not do. Back to Rhonda, yes, I think everyone would be cheering for Koby for many reasons.

    Thanks SI. And I meant absolutely no slap at Joey, for whom my respect has grown immensely over the last 2 years. As a matter of fact, he is among my favorite five or six eaters in all of CE.

    On the flip side, as much as I adore Sonya, let’s face reality, most people are yearning for a new Buffalo wing champion after seeing her 4-peat. That’s why they brought in Pat and Joey the past 2 years, but to no avail. Even I was shocked when she won this year.

    Perhaps they’ll give world champion Dale Boone a chance.

    Great comment,Indy.You hit the nail on the head.MLE is as fake as wrestling.It wasn’t until I saw Crazy Legs take a dive in the 2010 San Gennaro cannoli contest that I realized that the outcome of most of these contests is predetermined.That’s why there is no drug testing in IFOCE.It’s not a real sport & exists for entertainment purposes only.I wanted to ask George Shea about this at this year’s SG cannolis,but he didn’t show up & I like Richard Shea too much to grill him(pun intended).I think it’s hilarious,though,that so many people take this fake nonsense serious(especially here) & actually believe these contests are real.As P.T. Barnum said,”There’s a sucker born every minute.”KOBY RULES!!!

    Hey Indy Appelis, suck on this, no article on MLE eaters huh? Maybe you should think before you post? FACE!!

    Not doing any stories on the MLE? A whole SI story just this month and gee, not even one mention of Kobi, and definately no mention of any indie jokers. In fact, this SI columnist writes as if Kobi doesn’t even exist anymore. Much like that other reporter who said Kobi has hit rock bottom doing basement leauge baseball games. This SI story looks like Kobi’s taking sloppy seconds from even Sonya now. If Kobi returns to Nathan’s, he’ll have to sign a contract not to eat any other hotdogs, and Kobi don’t play that. Hey ESPN would you rather cover Kobi eating against nobodies, or Joey Chestnut, Sonya Thomas, Eater X, Pat Bertolletti … ?

    Gavonne, look at the definition of the word “sport.” M-W defines it as “physical activity engaged in for pleasure.”

    Therefore, CE sure seems to fit—-and much more so than Texas Hold-em, which ESPN televises also.

    The key question for me is are all sports figures athletes?

    Looking at M-W again, an athlete is defined as “a person who is trained or skilled in exercises, sports, or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina.

    Going by that definition competitive eaters are athletes too.

    I think most of us are victimized by stereotypical standards and expectations, which need to be reevaluated.

    You’re using such a broad definition:”physical activity engaged in for pleasure”,that sex,or even brushing your hair or putting on your make-up could be considered a sport.C’mon,are you really that dumb to believe that ANY physical activity engaged in for pleasure is an actual sport?Your logic is spurious since a lot of eaters don’t train,& there is no physical strength,agility or stamina required.You only feel this way & try to convince others of it because you’re a CE groupie.And anyhow the real point of it all(which you avoided) is what Indy wrote about MLE manipulating contests & manufacturing champions.The IFOCE eaters won’t admit it because they are getting paid to keep their mouths shut,so the question is:who’s paying you to write these comments?At least the Lol airhead has an excuse for kissing ass.What’s yours?

    Your perception also seems to be faulty.I didn’t call anyone dumb,I merely asked “…are you…”.

    Gavonne, not one thing in your entire half-assed attempt to discredit Rhonda’s post made any sense. You’re so far off-center that I can’t even take it seriously, so I’ll assume you were joking.

    Just a pic of the icon at SI from his facebook page. I have never met him but he seems like a great guy. Hope he does well at Nathans next year!
