    Hofmann’s restrictive contract probably nixed Kobayashi’s attendance at this event. I mean would you want your chief company spokesperson associated with this collection of degenerates? Porn stars, strippers, drunks, racists, sexists, etc., isn’t exactly the best forum for your company’s top promoter to be associated with. Oh, wait a minute Kobi doesn’t sign restrictive contracts. It’s so funny that “Team Kobi” actually bought into that “Free Kobi” crap for leaving the MLE when in reality he knew he’d never be number one again and didn’t want to admit that to his syncophant fans. Boy the number of people Kobi screws over just grows and grows — Crif Dogs, The West Coast Hot Dog Contest, Derby Deli, Kobi’s fans, independent eaters, Nathan’s, and now the current Wing Bowl champ screwing over Angelo. But, it’s hard to feel sorry for Angelo’s crew because they, themselves have screwed over so many people over the years.

    If the Squibber wins, will he receive both the $20K AND the Camaro, since he’s local?

    For Koby not to participate, there must be some contractual issue with Hofmann’s (spelling?), precluding him from doing so. I just hope it’s worth more than $20K!

    Kobi won’t show cause WIP won’t pay him another 10 g’s to appear. Screw that spoiled punk. I think it’s more messed up that they just took Super Squibb out of the running for the local winner. I’d be pissssssed! Not that 20 g’s isn’t a sweet pot, but take the car out of the mix and its not as impressive of a win. Jonathan’s a good guy. I’d like to see him win it.

    Kobi is garbage. Anyone who watched the live stream of Crif knows it. Who the hell cares if he ears Twinkie’s on Wendy Williams or slams food down at Sports Illustrated? They aren’t wins. He was smart to get out of MLE when he did cause he’ll never be able to take down Jaws! Chestnut is King! Long live Joey!

But it kind of shoots down Kobi being Japanese and not gay argument. But seriously, a lot of people (Crif Dogs, West Coast Hot Dog Eating Contest, Derby Deli, Nathan’s, independent eaters, etc.) would like to know when the next Fourth of July rolls around, what hot dog company does Team Kobi intend to hold a sham contest for him? Of course, Kobi has to feed his ego on July Fourth and Team Kobi requires these desparate fake contests to show Kobi is still relevant in competitive eating. Yet unfortunately, I think he’s running out of patsies to screw over. Particularly, since Hofmann’s has now demonstrated that they are at least smart enough not to allow their chief spokesperson attend the Wing Bowl. Knowing this about Hofmann’s, they’re probably not stupid enough to allow Kobi to hold a lame a hot dog contest in their name on the Fourth of July against Nathan’s. So, next year doesn’t bode well for Team Kobi with no Wing Bowl and no fake July Fourth hot dog contest. I guess pizza at the Canadian strip mall, minor league baseball games, and eating Hofmann’s against amateurs is all Kobi’s got left.

    what about Jamie Mcdondald if he completes his stunt and makes it to wing bowl who do you guys think will take it him or squibb!!!! I dont think us male stands a chance against either although he is a great eater I wont deny that.

    Thanks for answering the question OJ. This is more of what I don’t understand. Unless it is because of his contract with Hofmann’s it seems bewildering that Koby, as an independent, would pass up—-what is it, $20K?—-the largest first-place prize offerred outside of Nathan’s?

    If it is, indeed, because of the contract with Hofmann’s, then I’d have to assume the contract is favorable for Koby, and I wish him only the best, which is what he, as the only living legend of CE as we know it, and one of the two best competitive eaters to ever pick up an HDB, deserves.

    Rhonda, love Kobi as an eater, hate his management and the “Team Kobi” enablers. They lied about Kobi leaving the MLE because he didn’t want to be restricted by a contract (as proven by signing a contract with Hofmann’s); tried to embarrass his fellow eaters (Joey Chestnut, Pat Bertoletti, etc.) when he got arrested at Nathan’s; did copycat-MLE-trumped-up-selected-judging eating events (Turkey) to embarrass other eaters (even his “friend” Sonya Thomas who he appeared with in a Master Card commercial); screwed sponsors as evident by eating at least four different hot dog contests; tried to diminish one of Brooklyn’s most coveted institutions by holding a copycat contest on July 4th; limited independent eating events by going independent (begged indies to compete at HIS contests to gain credibility with the media) then taking the bulk of the prize money because he wasn’t good enough anymore to compete in the MLE; screwed Philadelphia’s Wing Bowl by promising to return following the year after he won the Wing Bowl; now his mangement has him hooked him up with a pornographic web site where he gets fed grapes by half-naked slave boy (not gay, just Japanese?); Has there ever been a more screwed up management of a public figure?

    The REALITY is, as I have said more than a few times, I DO NOT hate PEOPLE—-not even Koby’s “enablers.”

    Though I vehemently disagreed with some of Koby’s tactics, I have the utmost respect for Takeru. Everyone makes mistakes, uses poor judgment, at times—-even you and me.

    Even friends behave in an unfriendly manner toward one another sometimes. True friendship is noncontingent, unconditional, and there is no doubt in my mind that Koby and TBW remain friends.

    Lots of people know all this, but we can all need to reminded sometimes … even you and me.
