Tim "Eater X" Janus stated on twitter that he will become a free agent (presumably MLE contract will expire) on April 12.

Maybe Boone can recruit him in WLOCE

“I had a great time filming @SHO_Billions The cast and crew were so nice, and what a treat it was to do something so different!” It means MLE gets no say and gains nothing from whatever opportunities develop. It isn’t about contests.

Wow i always thought Janus was loyal to IFOCE till day he dies. With his good looks he can become a leading man in Hollywood and stuff his face at same time.

@7:44, by everyone you mean 2 or 3? I don’t think they are jumping ship so much as they are interested in trying new things. After over 10 years I don’t blame them for wanting to do different things.

Smelkin hasnt jumped ship yet and hes been with organization since 1997

@5:44 is right. If Janus cared so much about eating, he would have competed more often in the last few years. Joining APE is not his concern. He just doesn’t want to be tied down.

Who are the former MLE eaters who went to APE?
Arnie Chapman
Dave O’Karma (??)
Joe LaRue
Joe Menchetti
Stephanie Torres
Jamie McDonald

Tim Janus showed last year at Nathan’s that even though he barely competes he is able to ride to a comfortable third place, solidifying the fact that MLE consists of Joey, Matt, Tim and Shea’s fillers who more or less join MLE to put they’re “ranked #X in the world in competitive eating”. Who are they kidding?
anonymous said
February 24, 2016 @ 8:35 am
Smelkin hasnt signed a contract since 2006

The Shea’s won’t de-rank Smelkin for fear that he may do something rash like doing a swan dive off the GWB.

nobody ever questioned Tim ability as an eater then and now but i think its obvious he never liked being overshadowed by better eaters like sudo stonie chestnut and lesco and the are better than him

eating contests are slowly losing steam.

@1:15 slowly? lol if you compare the amount of challenges and contests as well as active eaters in 2011 to 2016, it’s night and day. The “steam” was gone by 2014. Now the word to use in America is dying. The only growth is in Australia and Europe.

1:15 correction: MLE contests are going down, notice they are still hosting the eating contest. Please read.

I personally am one of the newer eaters in the contest scenes. I noticed a huge drop off in 2015 for contests. Like very huge. But there are quite a few new people stepping up. Contests just arent there as much now.

The reason CE is dying is because Man vs Food is no longer on TV. Also, Todd does not put a lot of work into All Pro.
Anonymous said
February 25, 2016 @ 8:53 am
CE is not dying. It is just that there are different contests in different years. MLE needs to come up with more WOW though. They will lose not just good eaters but good people to represent them. Janus is a case in point. Plus many of those people create their own opportunities that have little to do with MLE helping them.

I used to think i was some sort of a celebrity or someone important when i was a competitive eater but as time went by i realized i was probably being laughed at and mocked behind my back by family friends and co workers

1148 .Me too You can tell when you talk to people right away if they like it or hate it.Some are amazed and want to hear more and some say don’t say anymore. All I know is that we all were born this way and we enjoy it very much.If You eat in MLE,APE, etc or just like to do a simple restraunt challenge. Its a lot of fun on any level.I enjoy OJ’s site very much and I commend Him or Her for doing this each and every Day.If we could filter out the trashy stuff I would even enjoy the site more.I still check it every Day .No matter what level of eating You do just enjoy and have fun.Life is short.

Agreed. At first when you’re winning contests and you get the thrill of the stage, you feel like a low level rock star.
As time goes by, it becomes this thing you do once in awhile that people find gross and/or interesting.
It really has taken a decline and I wish I would have gotten involved during the “golden age”. Seems like there used to me more of an air of excitement. Now it all seems so pedestrian at times.

In the golden age you didn’t feel like a clown on stage. As weird as it sounds there was some sort of prestige attached to it. The media dictates your overall popularity. If you receive extensive media coverage other than a cameo spot from a contest, then everyone thinks your something special.

years ago i was a fan (and still am) of CE. Eating on the 4th at Nathans, for the (“100th Anniversary”) would be AWESOME, and i would willingly sign the contract for that, but that’s it.
The ranking would be kinda cool, but only for a short time and would it be something i even thought about that much, I am currently a better eater then lots of people ranked with MLE
MLE has lost some great eaters and failed to sign others, but that does not mean that those same people, who were great eaters then are no longer great eaters. We just dont hear about them as much, partially because MLE gives us the platform to hear about them.
I understand the pros and cons of signing and not signing with MLE. Each eater just has to weigh those for themselves.

I know from talking to him that he’s come to view competitive eating as potentially very dangerous, and thinks that most eaters are too quick to dismiss the possibility (or they’re in denial about it) that they’re slowly hurting themselves or risking something catastrophic. I think his desire to leave MLE is not just about a contract but also about his wish to be smarter with his body.

951 Janus is not a fan of mine and feeling is mutual. Always felt he was a smart kid with head on his shoulder but i felt that was negated due to his desire to destroy his body with competitive eating. Segment some years back on Discovery channel convinced me. However if what you say is truth ,i have alot more respect for him now than i did before

Maybe Janus can somehow talk his 44 yr old buddy Conti into retiring before he does any more damage to his intestines

Battle of the Big Eaters 4 could be interesting. Australian eating challenges have really taken off recently, especially in Melbourne

LeaLovesLifting and her 350+ sushi piece capacity could headline the German team if they are invited

I heard once a team loses, other than Japan, they are out for a while. I think there are too many other countries that should get a shot before Australia again, like Singapore, Korea, the Philippines, Germany, Canada, etc.
