Exactly Rhonda. Only an immature idiot would take the remark out of context. I was basically trying to preserve his illustrious career. If Pete comes out of this contest with 25 or 30 dogs which might not even be close to regulation size Nathans dogs, how the hell is anyone going to think of him as the real deal anymore?

Pete just proved last weekend that really all he has is showmanship and his formidable ability to promote himself is far more talented than his speed and stomach capacity. I guess he’ll always have his buddies on muscle beach to keep his ego bubble aloft as in this event. But everyone outside of the weighlifting community now know that Pete is really just a mediocre eater but a tremendous self promoter. His claims of being the best eater in he world — $100,000-a-year by joining the IFOCE, how he would take over Japan’s competitive eating circuit, etc. — it was a good run, but that’s not going to fly anymore with those outside of fan base and independent reporters. Even the Canadians now have to admit that if Kobi entered a hot dog eating contest against Pete, it would be such a blow out by Kobi that it would be almost too embarrassing for both Pete and Kobi? So muscle heads go ahead and enjoy watching a mediocre self promoting eater eat against some amateurs. Any chance to get out to the beach is a nice day, however it’s not exactly CNN Headline News on what the outcome will be. Pete wins, amateurs lose, it’s a formula that worked well for him the past and after last week’s slam of Pete by Kobi, that’s the only thing for Pete to fall back on.

This show is only interesting if Pete has to wrestle Sumo Dan right after the eating contest. Lets put both fish out of water folks.

Step right up i agree with most of what you posted but unlike other sports where a blemish on your record will always be remembered, competitive eaters and the sport itself has a short lived memory. As big a name as Kobi might be, people will soon forget that Pete lost to Kobi and he can resume his career beating up tomato cans and posting his controlled lab eating challenges from his bedroom .

I’m not sure the smack down Kobi put on Pete will be so easily forgotten. Because his loyal fan base of weightlifters, who have earnestly defended Pete for so long and bought his claims of being a top eater, are justified in feeling betrayed now that Pete’s been exposed. The weighlifting community knows if one weightlifter bench presses 300 pounds in a competition, and an another weightlifter can only bench 210 pounds, the 210 pounder is even in the 300 pounder league. The analogy applies, because that’s the same margin of what Kobi beat Pete in the PIE eating competition. So it’s going to be a little hard to swallow, even amongst his loyal fan base, the next time Pete tries to claim he’s a top eater. It’s ironic that as we post, there’s an OJ poll conducted prior to the PIE event and still posted where 20 people actually thought Pete was going to beat Kobi — that’s gotta hurt even the loyalist fans of how they could be so snowed by this guy.

I want to see if Pete will improve because of this competition. He says he doesn’t really train for these contests so maybe he will start to take things seriously and learn from Kobe and have a rematch next year. Joey did that with HDB, maybe Pete can do it with pizza.

Step right up what you say makes sense but remember these friends of his are bodybuilders and not competitve eaters. They have little if any interest in the sport but to root on one of their bodybuilding buddies side hobbies. As far as major letdown? Doesnt matter they love him no matter what.
