Wild Turkey Bourbon will sponsor an IFOCE turkey eating contest in New York City on Monday Tuesday. A commenter claims this contest will be an invitational, which Rich Shea confirms.

    I wonder why invitationals can’t be restricted to eaters who have not won a contest in a year or two. That would be more fair and it could help resurrect or launch careers of unknown or forgotten eaters. Don’t sponsors want faces other than the same old people? Talent should be a secondary consideration.

    Different Faces: We’ve been over this before. Regarding invites, proven talent is a primary consideration. A sponsor is usually given a list of potential eaters and a price list of what it would take to get those eaters. The higher the rank the bigger the media and public draw and usually the higer in cost to the sponsor (in terms of meeting fees to get an eater if appropriate and/or travel expenses). Those eaters out there who continuously complain about never getting invited and blaming MLE are wrong. It’s ultimately the sponsor who decides and it’s a business promotion decision. No sponsor is going to sign a contract to get eaters who haven’t won a contest in a year or two. Regarding your other question, yes the sponsors do want the same old faces that are recognizable to the press and media. Of course however, there are cases where eating talent is sometimes a secondary consideration when an eater has other proven skills such as ability to talk to the media or musical skills. Fair? Life and business ain’t always fair and like it or not ce at the MLE level is a business. That’s just the hard facts. Oh, one more thing, if you never get invited that’s usually because your a dislikable pain in the butt and a troublemaker — sound like anyone we know?

    I’m guessing Sonya, Bob, CLC, Pat, Davekos, Booker, Larell, Maria. Locals mostly is easier travel.

    Outsider you’re an anonymous asshole with misinformed facts. Sponsor doesn’t have the authority to pick and choose. They ask or inquire then MLE obliges. Another thing you know nothing about my personal relationship with MLE except for what you believe on here or on my website and most of that bullshit is for you’re entertainment. Dislikeable maybe? pain in butt? Maybe on this site but not with them. Go ask them if you don’t believe me. . I rarely contact them unless its something urgent.

    The name outsider is probably purposefully ironic. Good guess that this person is very much inside as within the organization. When beautifulbrian starts running MLE instead of his foul mouth, someone might listen to what he says. There is absolutely nothing, nada, not one thing entertaining about him. Urgent about competitive eating? Well actually that is entertaining. What goes around comes around. When he starts giving something positive to competitive eating, maybe, maybe, someone will pay some good attention to him.

    Seiken wasn’t invited because he does not represent competitive eating well. He is a detriment, plain and simple and exhibits childlike behavior with his verbal tantrums both here and on his own website. Just look him up, he is easily findable. He writes as if he is owed something. He IS owed SOMETHING but it is nothing he wants. Why doesn’t he ask his own organization why he wasn’t invited. He does not need to, he really knows the answer, he just doesn’t like it. So back to the contest.
