Re: your new poll, Koby should actually eat the most wings, and I think he might actually win, but who knows.

    I’m guessing:

    1. Koby
    2. Super Squibb
    3 or 4. Chilita
    4 or 3. Wingador

The only person on the planet who might have had a shot at Koby today is Joey Chestnut.

For all you who pointed at Koby’s Spike TV Chow Down participation in wings a few years ago, as an indication that he would have trouble in wings, may this be a lesson to you.

Now, the question is, with Koby coming back next year, how does Philly get the title back in the hands of a local?

I bet there will be some talks with MLE to allow their eaters in next year. But unless Koby re-signs with MLE, the Sheas won’t let their eaters participate.

  25. anonymous said

No re signing of Koby unless they give him 100 grand signing bonus and modify the contract to his advantage. One title that he will keep for years to come . Not one eater will ever come close to beating him in Wingbowl . Not now not ever

As much as I adore and respect Sonya, A 8:54, she doesn’t quite have the magic to win any more in Wing Bowl. I think the subjectivity has taken a toll on her confidence in WB.

However, bring Koby to Buffalo, and Sonya might give Koby a fair run for the money. But frankly, when you’re as talented as Koby, even that would be a longshot.

The legend is no poser he can get it done.

Never will we see a Joey vs Kobi as the truth of this competition would show how superior Kobi a independant is to the MLE chosen one.

Does anyone really think anyone from MLE can beat Kobi…. Really?

  34. Rhonda Evans said (Registered March 6, 2008)

    February 3, 2012 @ 10:16 am

    Depends on the food EP.

    In wings, only Joey.

In HDBs: Forget Koby. Joey all the way.

In seafoods (e.g. oysters, clams): I’d take Sonya

    Sweets: probably Pat.

With Koby against top MLE eaters in all foods: Koby would win1/2 to 2/3 of all contests.

As excited as I am for Koby winning WB, and I’m thru the roof, Koby certainly is beatable by the MLE’s elite in a number of foods.

  35. FOS said

    February 3, 2012 @ 10:29 am

OJ — For the record, and besides the Nathan’s clashes with Joey, in what contests did Kobi lose to MLE eaters? I seem to recall something about fruitcake with Sonya and Booker? For comparisons purposes, I think the problem is when Kobi was with MLE he was very selective of what contests he would partake in. In addition, he was based in Japan not New York during the majority of his time with MLE. If he felt he wasn’t a lock to win, he’d stay away. Nothing wrong with that, many eaters do that. But, I believe he kept himself strictly for the major events with MLE and rarely participated in other events.

  36. Hmm said (Registered November 12, 2009)

Beg to differ with Rhonda but think that this is not even worth discussing. I cannot think of one single reason that MLE needs Kobi, not one. And yes, I do think Kobi beat Joey twice in HDB’s when Joey got the belt. Kobi has gone his own way and what does offer to MLE after basically trashing them? Honestly, nothing as far as I can see. He would be a liability, even Joey and Stonie eating that pizza was a really really bad move for upcoming sponsors. So…….I am still thrilled for Kobi and would not bother to suggest who he might or might not beat in any given food. Not discouraging anyone else, of course, that is just my opinion. I actually think that he could take many many of the top eaters in almost all foods. He is really an eating machine and never had the opportunity to train with the real food when he lived in Japan. I think he would be number one MLE in everything except HDB would be very close.

  37. Blizzz said (Registered July 16, 2008)

    February 3, 2012 @ 11:00 am

Pat Bertoletti could give both Joey and Koby a run for their money in wings, it’s insane how well he does with those currently. And I still give Kobi the slightest of an edge in HDBs over Joey, like Hmm said, I think Kobi got cheated out of the belt at least once while they were going head to head. Actually they’re probably more even, I just can’t give the edge to Joey, he just looks like he’s about to die after every contest and Kobi never seems to have an issue with being that full.

I want some VIDEOS of the wing bowl! I bet Kobi was demolishing these things… that’s one wing every 5.3 seconds or so.

Rhonda, I know there was controversy behind the Wingstop record, but going by the estimation of about 180 wings (Pat is an honest guy, so I bet that’s a pretty good ball park figure he guesstimated). That would equate out over a 12 minute span to a wing every 4 seconds or so, which is an excellent pace, but probably not sustainable for 30 minutes. Regardless, even with slowing down to a 6 second wing, it would be on pace with what Kobi was doing (assuming those wing totals were accurate, and who knows with the wingbowl) So yeah, I think he would do quite well against anyone in wings. Wing size also plays a huge role with comparing numbers like that, and keep in mind, wingbowl has some of the smallest wings around further pushing the numbers in Pat’s favor.

Using Nathan’s as the gold standard, from a promotional standpoint Wing Bowl’s a flop. That’s really all Angelo Cataldi cares about — media attention for him. However, there’s been very little national coverage. I’ve yet to see CNN or Fox News mention it on their crawl or in any on air capacity. In fact, I don’t think it was mentioned on any of the morning shows nationally or beyond Philly. Most reporters now recognize this as a spectacle, a disgusting one at that, and not a contest of any merit. Without weighing the wings, reporters feel the outcomes are all just some jamoke’s opinion. Angelo Cataldi, recognizing this lack of credibility during promotion of the event, has now gone to extreme. Now they just count every wing. Rules are: Take a bite of the wing; throw it down on the plate; and count the wing. A far cry from the days they threw out more of Sonya’s plates than a Greek Restaurant after a wedding. Who knows how many wings Kobi or anybody else ate? Too bad. I feel most sorry for Squibb who I think actually believed this was a real contest and he was some sort of wing champion. He seems like a good kid and its sad to burst his bubble. But I guess a new car as way with making up for that.

I want to be your Rocky…” he took every cheesy tourist attraction including goalies, mummers, and cheesesteak makers and plastered them all over himself and his entourage. He put the liberty bell in his name! How disrespectful can you be?! Kobi is Japanese! Not American. He isn’t from Philly. Win or loose he has NO right taking icons and symbols that we believe in that represent THIS country and make them about him. You want to win? Win. Don’t make a mockery of what this city loves to suit your media needs. Take the $10,000 apperance fee the gave him to participate and buy some Japanese flags. Ignorant, rude, offensive, disrespectful, self-serving… He choked three times on his bones yesterday, hope next year they finish him off. How dare he come to this event and misrepresent American symbolism! He tries that again and it’ll be WWII part II.

Squibb is a great competitor at WingBowl. Never underestimate his awesomeness. He ripped through those plates yestedemolish demolished all the other eaters. There was mention by a camera man for a local news station after the event that they leaned in favor of Kobi. He was at an entourage afterparty I was at. He said when they called Squibb’s 4th plate yesterday Kobi was on 3 still. When they called Squibb’s 5th plate they called Kobi’s 6th. Why pad the greatest eater in the worlds numbers. When you are using the celebrity of his name to make your small town do nothing radio show the same level as Stern… Angelo Cataldi and WIP will do anything to get the ratings. Even cheat the Black Widow out of her win. Squibb does seem like a nice guy. It’s ashame that Angelo hates him so much. He really could have made a name for himself. Kobi probably did win. No doubt about that, but 337 is hard to believe even for him. I was there and saw the whole thing. No one broke 315. I say Squibb should take his cars and move on. The rest of us should give up believing that his event is more than a reason for WIP/Angelo to ego stroke.

Who said they cheered for Koby? NOone cheered for him! I was there! He was booed. Booed and booed and booed. There was people chanting “go back home”, “U.S.A., U.S.A.,..” and “go back to your country”. Not Philly’s finest moments as far as being PC goes, but NO one wanted him to win. That was made evident by the 25,000 people booing there. Actually, the only time the booing stopped was when “Super” Squib clapped after the round two totals were announced for them. It was weird. It was like “Super” Squibb was telling the people that it was the real deal by clapping. Like he was ok by being beaten. Trust me, when it came down to just the two of them, EVERYONE was cheering for the “Super” Squib to win. In all honesty, I was too. It was a sad day to see WIP basically bring in someone to give the crown to. It’s our radio station, it’s our event, it should have stayed a local winner. The idea behind Wingbowl was supposedly to give Philadelphia fans a reason to celebrate because our team never made it to the superbowl. Now we are stuck with Andy Reid, not going to the superbowl, AND they gave the win away! Not to a local. Not even to an American citizen. I agree that they did misrepresent our symbols of freedom and state by giving them to Koby. They had our mummers walk him out. Thank you WIP for not only taking our joy away, but auctioning of everything that means something to this city off to the highest bidder for ratings and publicity. You should be ashamed of yourselves. I won’t be there next year. I refuse to support that “champion” at our contest or have him “represent” us. The audacity is, just-Unbelievable.

WWE, exactly!! See you get it. Can’t believe Kobi is a sell out! Guess that’s what jaw-thritis will do to ya. Cloud ur judgment enough to let ur girlfriend talk u into an unsanctioned scripted radio event invented to publicize a two bit morning program that isn’t worth the pot he pisses in. Seriously, they gain creditability and publicity by using Kobi’s name. He looses creditability and respect by participating. What an idiot? Guess some people will do anything for a paycheck or 15 minutes of fame. Kobiyashi turns out to be america’s new joke. Maybe he should change his name to stone cold or keep the Rocky theme he stole from thencity? He may have won yesterday, but now he’s officially a looser.

Of course it’s rigged! U think it’s real? Haha Seriously? Last yr Squibb smoked Wingador & they said it was 1 wing difference. Before that they had Wingador beat Blk Widow when she really won. This yr Squibb was ahead of KobiiSight out of the gates & all the sudden at the end of the round Kobi was up like 30. If u saw it in person u know what really happened. They had to let Kobi win so he doesn’t protest & sue them like Nathan’s. If u dont understand read the Joe comment. Its not real. That’s why it’ll never be an ifoce or mle event. Angelo Cataldi is a fraud with a hard on for Joey. He won’t rest til he gets him back there. He is just using Kobi to do it.

I dont get why they made up numbers. The lower amounts that everyone really ate would’ve been good. Why add 20-30 to it. There wasnt a record set from what I was watching.

There are some great eaters in WB. They deserve a lot of credit. It takes balls to go against koby. Pro or not – Squibb has huge brass ones! Good job dude!

Do most of you realize that posting 68 comments of utter nonsense you are putting a huge smile on oj Rifkin face? In addition you are creating more fanfare and publicity for a worthless event. Someone is getting the last laugh

Run a fair contest, weigh the wings, put Koby against Joey and Pat and they both will whip his ass!

Doesnt matter if you weigh the wings or count them. Kobi will always manage to come out the winner because not only is he better than those names but he eats clean and is a winner

Whatever anyone thinks, and there are certainly a ton of opinions, isn’t this the first time that Sports Illustrated really gave a lot of press to Wingbowl. Kobayashi must have courted them and in the end, he won big. And so did everyone else including USMale who would not have gotten this kind of press in MLE. It does not matter what is said, look beyond, probably everyone who participated as eaters and part of entourages came out a winner here and had their usual good time. Lots of stand up dudes too. Kobayashi gave them a big gift.

Im with you. This was MADE to be a local event. They rounded up some real good eaters this yr. They prob is none of them knew they were pawns. That they’d be filler in a contest. Take out that hack Wingadore, Kobi, and Chilita and you had a pretty good base contest. I’d like to see who would’ve won if it was counted right.

  87. Good Effort Squibb! said

    February 6, 2012 @ 10:10 am

I think people should stop trash talking and congratulate Squibb. It took guts to do what he did. He is just a small town guy who won a few contests. He beat pros last year and this year he was close. There are people who are afraid to face Kobiyashi. He did it. He put out his best, beat his own record, and scored a fourth car? That’s great! Good job Super Squibb and good luck next year.

Win or loose team Squibb is a class act. He bowed out gracefully. Never accusing Kobi of cheating like Simmons would. Or any of these other eaters for that matter. He seems like a good kid and he made a good attempt.

There are WB haters & WB fans. Stop acting like Squibbb and the others are Kobi’s sacrificial lambs. They all did a great job. I watched the last 12 years and I’ll keep watching. Kobi keeps going against his dr’s he won’t even be able to open his mouth this time next year. Maybe then it’ll be a local event again.
