Julie Dey on TwinCitiesLive video

TwinCitiesLive has a video of Julie Dey’s appearance on Friday to promote the Minnesota Nathan’s qualifier. She says she was inspired to enter by Pat Bertoletti and his girlfriend. After describing the typical amount of food she eats in a buffet, she competes in a short contest against one of the shows hosts.

Julie Dey ate 11 hot dogs to finish third in her first ever official eating contest. The contest was held in a cold rain and Pat Bertoletti claimed the hot dogs were leathery. If you think that Pat Bertoletti would have eaten %50-%100 more in optimal conditions and adjust Ms. Dey’s performance by a similar amount, it could have rivaled Sonya Thomas 18 HDB in 2003 (in 12 minutes) as one of the top overall competitive eating debuts at a Nathan’s qualifier.

Nathans has gotten to the point where everyone knows where everyone else is going. There are no freebies anymore If you cant do 30 stay home unless they love you that much where they would go out of their way to create an easy one like they did for Crazy Legs.

Except that you really can’t make estimates like that. The conditions of the hot dog matter much more when you’re trying to eat forty or fifty than they do when you’re trying to eat ten or fifteen.

Yeah, Pat couldn’t crack 30 in his qualifier, so he should have just stayed at home. Puh-leaze, anonymous.

I was not referring to Pat. Pat is a great eater I was referring to the lousy eaters that think they can sneak in with less than 20 or the eaters that bust their ass doing 20 or more that cant catch a break . You took my comment out of context

I think anyone one that can eat more than 10 hotdogs in 10 minutes is in our club. If you can do it in the freezing rain than you get a star next to your name. We argue about people eating 30 and 40 HDB’s but really anything over 6 is weird. Welcome Julie Dey! You did your thing, Dawg!

I wonder how she settled upon the number 32 as her goal.

Only asian females can put up out of the ordinary numbers in hot dogs or any for that matter any other foods. It is a proven fact if you want to get technical I have yet to witness or hear about an american female eater that can do the deuce or even come close to it

I think that Pat took it easy on Saturday once he realized how bad the hot dogs were and that their poor condition would make it impossible for him to approach a number that would make him happy. You guys would have criticized him if he had appeared to put forth his best effort but struggled to eat 40, so why not save face and wait for more favorable conditions?

Anyone who does media for Nathan’s who has never done it before needs to make sure to demand water be provided for everyone who will be eating. TV producers/hosts have no idea what they are doing and trying to eat dry hot dogs as fast as you can for the first time without any liquids is recipe for disaster (and bad TV). The eating at the end of this clip is prime example of people not knowing what they are doing – it’s painful to watch.

She seems like a nice gal. I must have seen her twin sister, because she looks extremely familiar.
