Pat would have broke the 250 mark easily, he had a big home crowd behind him today.

If you are going to have a contest, don’t you think you can plan to either A) HAVE ENOUGH FOOD! OR B) realize AHEAD of time this might be a problem & bring the time down.

THIS is NOT the 1st time its happened in the ifoce/mle.

It was a concern at a one or two Frank’s Red Hot events. (but didn’t happen)

I don’t think its happened at an aice event…yet. I could be wrong, i’m not at all of them.

    Good #’s though.

    How’s everyones anus doin’?

My guess is even Pat regrets doing this event, right about now.

GJoe, If Pat has any regrets, I’m sure he could always wipe his behind with that big cardboard check for X Thousand Dollars. Denmark, Wing Kong and Tim Brown (I believe in that order) were right on Hall. 4th Place was a shootout.

Here’s all the results I obtained from Wild Bill Myers who obtained the final counts from Ryan Nerz. In the video I have of the entire contest, Ryan announces Pat with 190, but in the IFOCE he finished with 191, then on Wild Bill’s tally he included the last place finsher(Joe Hansen) amount which was 8. Tim Brown finished with 80 (he was next me) but on Wild Bill’s writing it looked like Bill wrote 81 or 87, I took a pic of the final #’s with the place next to them. ANyways, here’s the results:

    1st- 191- Pat Bertoletti
    2nd-141-Sonya Thomas
    3rd-120-Rich “The Locust” Lefevre
    4th-110-Hall “Hoover” Hunt
    5th-97-Erik The Red Denmark
    6th-91-Micah “Wing Kong” Collins
    7th-82-Domenico “The Sicilian” Alesi
    8th-80-Tim “Gravy” Brown
    9th-66-Justin Mih
    10th-61-Eric “Steakbellie” Livingston
    11th-47-William “Wild Bill” Myers
    12th-43-Jim “The Hammer” Hamrick
    13th-26-Kevin Van Sickle
    14th-9-Thomas Wallner (from Austria)
    15th-8-Joe Hansen

This contest was crazy. At first, it appeared to be about 8-9 eaters, then all of a sudden rumors were going around that Sonya might now show up because she couldn’t find the place. (It was difficult to fin this place, it was inbetween two streets, not exactly the address, and the traffic was obnoxious to get there) Anyways, then there was problems with Steakbellie and Wing Kong running late. So the introductions start and all off a sudden Steakbellie, Micah, and the Hammer walk on during the annoucements, it was funny. On the other hand, the table became tight. When i went to dump my water on th side of the stage, i peeked at all the next plates to come after an eater would finish 20 on each plate, and i knew we were going to run out. So the contest went well other than 1min 30 sec early ending, it was supposed to be 8 min. Anyways, Ryan was going to call the contest when Pat was going to finish his last few, but Pat got a hold of another plate to keep the contest going longer and then after he consumed that last plate, Ryan called the contest at 6:30 exactly.

There was some debate about Sonya saying Pat didn’t clean his peppers well. He finshed with 200 and deducted 9-10 for debris. It was reported Sonya and Rich were very clean with the peppers. Regardless if many debate Pat’s debris, he was still well ahead and no speculation go have overturned his 1st place finish, he smoked everyone. The good thing was that we started as late as possible so Steakbellie, Micah, and the Hammer can make it. Steakbellie and Micah flew in and the Hammer came in with them i believe. I did see Sonya leave fairly quick. She did leave with all smiles,so that was good.
Thomas Wallner was so happy to be in the contest, his first. I believe it was first for Joe Hansen and Kevin Van Sickle as well. There was a huge crowd. In front of us were a bunch bulls in a small setting for a rodeo that was going to tak eplace later in the day. The place was getting overcrowded and I couldn’t wait to go home before the volcano started to act up in my stomach, even as I typed this all out, i had to pause and make a trip to the bathroom. Sorry for that info, but I am sure many other eaters made several trips by now. On another note, Erik the Red reported that he did set a record in Jalapenos back home the day before with 26 in one minute and another record in Habanero’s I don’t remember that number, Erik will have to help with that #. Anyways, I hope I didn’t bore anyone with my story. I will put pictures and hopefully I can put up the video of the contest (one of Tim Brown’s friends offered to video the contest with my digital camera which came out pretty good) I also recorded WGN-9 brief news coverage of the contest.

I would have picked that top 5 in that order. Hall has really picked up his game and will start placing above Sonya and Rich often and soon. Domenico though has to be the big surprise. He had a long lay off and comes out of no where and beats quite a few big names. Keep it up Domenico!!!

Good job Pat. Two Hooligan wins in one weekend (Chip brought it home for HH too). I’m pretty sure Pat would have eaten another 109 in that last minute and a half to finish at an even 300. Then he would have grabbed the mic and reenacted a scene from the movie “300”.

Thanks BB. As painful as this contest was, i really loved it. Those peppers can go either way, like many say, “anything can happen in jalapenos” I, for once, developed a stragedy as I was eating and can’t wait to compete again.

Thanks Bubba, the more big names I saw show up the more I really wanted to do well, i never really get to travel to contests because my wife will kill me (not literally) if I leave home to compete. CE is the only thing we really don’t see eye to eye. So i had to really push myself to as best as possible, but was it was fun and great to be back. I am looking to make a comeback but I just can’t get to the tables!!

A shortage in peppers? If they were trying to save money investing in jalapeno peppers there is a place in brooklyn 9th ave and 65th st called the poor peoples market. They sell fresh fruits and vegetables for people on a budget or limited income. Krazy Kev told me about the place some time back. 22cents a pound for the freshest jalapenos you ever tasted. They could have bought 40lbs worth and saved a bundle damn

Wow. Those were some killer totals. About running out of peppers, that should never, ever happen. That’s like running out of bats or balls at a pro baseball game. MLE needs to take the events as seriously as the eaters do.

Eaters base strategy on and count on fixed rules and fixed time limits. I doubt there would be any change in the top two, but the placings below those could have changed dramatically. You don’t change the rules along the way! 🙁

I wouldnt have been so nice to you after the contest if I had realized you kicked my butt. Nice work!

Just to set the facts straight: The totals were inaccurate but the placements were correct. I never did get a seventh plate because they ran out as I was nearing the end of my sixth. I finished before time was called and probably could have done 8-12 more if I had been given another plate. Sonya had gotten her 7th plate shortly before and was able to finish them all to make her total 140 (I don’t know where the extra one came in). I’m probably not the only one who was hurt by the running out of peppers but none of this changes the fact that Pat totally dominated the event with another Koby like performance. Rhonda’s comment indicated the top two wouldn’t have changed but I say the top five wouldn’t have changed. I know we all were prepared for strong finishes (and I was actually picking up speed after a slow start).

ppl standing around without FOOD while the contest still going on IS NOT A CONTEST !!

Yet another CHEATING CONTEST held by I.F.O.C.E.

What a disgrace to the EATING WORLD

While Hall has made dramatic improvement, no doubt about it, he still has a bit to go before he starts consistently finishing ahead of Rich, let alone the world’s best female eater.

I do hope that Sonya shows up for grits, however, if she even likes them. I’m not positive, but I think people will fill up fast in that food.

If she doesn’t show, Joey and Pat will still put up mind-boggling numbers. If Sonya does show, her poundage eaten will separate the men from the boys — well into the double digits for that nondunking food.

Is it just me or are all the IFOCE MCs starting to look alike? Maybe that’s intentional.
