Sonya Thomas top ranked female streak in jeopardy

Sonya Thomas debuted in the IFOCE/MLE rankings in August 2003 at #8 and has been the top ranked woman in that listing since that time. When the Fall 2013 Winter 2013-14 MLE top 50 is released, that streak will probably be ended by Miki Sudo.

In the last rankings without Sonya Thomas from Summer (June?) 2003 Takako Akasaka was the top female at #12 despite not having competed in an IFOCE event since the 2000 Nathan’s finals where she finished 3rd. (Lorraine Arroll appears to be the top female American at #54). The top 15s from the rankings follow after the jump:

Summer (June?) 2003
1. Takeru Kobayashi
2. Kazutoyo Arai
3. Charles Hardy
4. Oleg Zhornitzky
5. Ed Krachie

9. Eric Booker
10. Steven Addicks
11. Syd Goldstein
12. Takako Akasaka
13. Dominick Cardo
14. Jed Donahue
15. Bill Simmons

August 2003
1. Takeru Kobayashi
2. Cookie Jarvis
3. Eric Booker
4. Rich LeFevre
5. Oleg Zhornitskiy
6. Joe Menchetti
7. Dale Boone

Yes, no doubt, Sonya’s 10-year, 4-month streak of being the top-ranked female in the IFOCE is over. Nothing lasts forever. If Miki can stay on top of the female ranks year after year until April 2024, then she’ll have equalled TBW’s accomplishment in that realm.

Sonya and Hank made quite a reputation for themselves this year. They know especially you Hank what I’m talking about.

New rankings out. Seiken has been dropped to 50. Can’t get much lower than that. Maybe George will put you back at 49 in you eat 12 hotdogs this year.

What an insult a legend like Seiken being dropped to 50. It’s almost like saying George Shea’s straw hat is a better eater than Seiken.

What an outrage ranking Seiken at the bottom of the heap! That’s like referring to Elvis as the Prince of Rock and Roll. Brian is going to pull out all the stops in 2014. I see him vaulting to 48!

Excellent point. Miki would have to have Sonyas record for the next ten years. Puts things in perspective.
