1. Takeru Kobayashi, 58 bratwurst in 10 minutes
2. Joey Chestnut 45 bratwurst
3. Pat Bertoletti 39 bratwurst
4. Bob Shoudt 38.5 bratwurst
5. Tim Janus 37 bratwurst
6. Sonya Thomas 34 bratwurst
Kobayashi broke Sonya’s old record about halfway through the contest and had a 9 brat lead with 1:40 left, so he did not need a last minute comeback as he did in his last two contests against Joey Chestnut.

Those were not the results that I got when I phoned my favorite competitive eater, who placed in the top five of this contest. Maybe he was mistaken or I misheard him.

It was my understanding that Sonya was nudged out of the top five finishers. I suppose now I will actually have to watch this on ESPN.

That’s probably correct, I realize now that the article does not say Sonya finished 3rd, only that she ate 34 brats.

I was also confused. Sonya did not place in the Top 5. Some officials told me she had been kicked off because they reviewed the tapes and saw her reverse a bit. She ended up with 8th place.

Wow! Bertoletti is a dead ringer for Travis Bickle. “You talkin’ to me?” Loved all of it. Koby kicks ass, Joey will come back, and Sonya is done. Humble Bob; stay humble but you deserve to be proud. I want a brat! Did Johnsonville pay to have this on ESPN??
