I think it was the best move on ifoce part to cancel the civil service qualifier considering that last year every tom dick and harry in the ifoce came out of the woodwork from all over the U.S. claiming they were civil service workers. In the past the contest was a NYC event open to federal city and state employees that work in NYC ONLY! Everyone realizes that most of the civil service entrants were walk ons off the street pretty much lame competition that registered. Any eater in the IFOCE that could put away 17-20 dogs was getting a free ride to Coney .

Any ideas on when table enders/fresh meat might find out whether they got into the qualifier they signed up for? I know I’m not one of the chosen ones and expect to have to wait, but wasn’t sure how long.

We need a qualifier in somewhere in Latin America, like in Mexico, Brasil or Panama 🙂

Who do you think the ifoce will send to Vegas? Do they want to set the stage for all the contests.? Will Rich and El Toro have to go to other cities? Lots of questions…….

Well, I refreshed & refreshed & refreshed until I saw the registration open up and I STILL didn’t make it into one of the fifteen spots for the Camden qualifier …. hmmm, I guess I can forget about getting a wildcard spot, if needed ..i’m glad i’m not the “paranoid” type or i’d say I saw something like this comin’!…

How is Kobayashi going to have time to get over here if the qualifier in Japan is June 24?

yeah hopping on a plane and flying from japan to nyc takes forever. only a 10 day window. that would be tight.

NAAWP, there’s 10 days from June 24th to July 4th. He’s not exactly taking a slow boat to China, er, I mean, to New York.

HOWEVER … I honestly DO NOT expect Koby to compete on July 4th. As much as I like, no LOVE, Koby, there is no way he has a chance to win against Joey hot dogs. His frame is too small for his stomach to expand enough to eat more than 60 HDBs. I also believe that Koby would never top Joey again in Krystals–same reason–if he were to show up again for that event.

I admit when I’m wrong, and I was dead wrong last year, not in overestimating Koby, but in underestimating Joey’s ability to eat as many HDBs as he did.

In pure speed contests, and in most foods, I still honestly believe that Koby would clean Joey’s clock about 75 % of the time. (Koby is the only eater in the world with faster handspeed than Sonya Thomas and Pat Bertoletti–my opinion only.) But let’s face facts, the two super events that dictate world rankings–Nathans and Krystals–are the ones at which Koby is now only second best.

So what does he have to gain by competing in them? Very little, I say. What does he have to lose? Well, I think he would be risking his pride and self esteem, as well as some of his world class clout / marketing ability as the world’s greatest speed eater ever.

And that’s why I don’t expect Koby to compete on July 4th.
