$200K to become official Nathan’s condiments sponsor

The New York Times has an article about “activist investor/corporate raider” Nelson Peltz’s clashes with the management of Heinz. Peltz wants to market more actively than the current board of directors does:

Mr. Peltz also wants Heinz to spend more on advertising to try to help increase the market for ketchup instead of paying money to retailers for shelf placement, which he says reduces the company’s margins. As an example of how Heinz might be more skilled with its marketing, he excitedly described how there was no sponsor besides Nathan’s for the World Championship Hot Dog Eating Contest and how Heinz missed out on a big opportunity.

“Where was the condiments sponsor?’’ he asked. “For $200,000 Heinz could have had their name all over the place, but that’s not their way.”

    Cookie,

Kudos to your recent enlargement in your reproductive organs. The most prestigious contest after Nathan’s??, Come on now, Nathan’s is least prestigious!!! Have you looked that term up in the dictionary?? There is no honor, there is no justice, all there is is EXPLOITATION. The eaters have been getting the shaft for years now. Bragging rights is worth alot, but when there is sooo much $$$ involved, the EATERS deserve MORE!!!!! Do you guys need a shop steward????

Nicely put Mr Chapman. Did Jarvis have the same spellling teacher that Lerman had. ? Its almost a match made in heaven

I can assure you Chapman had nothing to do with penning that comment, it was me. And I am pissed to find out how much $$ is involved, and get none. Just for qualifying every contestant should get $1000, and the winner deserves $1000 for every dog and bun eaten. I think it’s crazy. Without pay, I decided this year, I wouldn’t eat more than 3 Nathans Hot Dogs. But whatever, you all can get sick, get no compensation, and get forgotten in one week. Unless you can get over 45 d&b’s, you may as well not bother. ANON

Jarvis can talk all this bullshit now because he is not in the IFOCE any longer. Wouldnt be surprised if he knew this info while he was competing in Nathans for the past couple of years but didnt want to make waves due to his loyalty in the organization. Maybe speedeat.com should hire him as a staff writer considering all the info he supplied to them on contest results etc towards the end of 2003 and most of 2004.

It’s not Chapman. It is someone sympatheic to his cause, however. It’s also not GJoe.

And I have eaten over 10 Nathans at once and never felt more ill. Jarvis is not talking Bullshit now, he is talking reality. All IFOCE eaters should demand those in charge of the $$ to come clean for the eaters next Nathan’s contest according to the pay scale I said in the first post. If they don’t agree to that payment schedule, after qualifing, all eaters should just eat three and walk away from the table, while ESPN is covering the finals.

Good point but you still have the ass kissers to the organization that dont want to piss off the Shea’s and would prefer to remain loyal for fear they might be blackballed in future events. Some of these ass kissers have no life outside of competitive eating ,for this is a fraternity or a place that shelters them because they have either been outcasts to society as a youngster or they basically have no other friends and have been shunned upon by their peers
