Eater X is a badass! He always comes to play, and every time you think he’s peaked, he proves you wrong.

For the chicken wings, wing results are based on one wing equalling 1/2 ounce. So divide the number of wings eaten by half, and you have the ounces:
1 – Chip Simpson – 79 ounces = 4 lbs. 15 oz.
2 – Sonya/Bob – 73 ounces = 4 lbs. 9 oz.
4 – Jim Reeves – 54 ounces = 3 lbs. 6 oz.

WOW What GREAT results today.
I think Humble Bob Tieing Sonya in Wing Count has SIGNIFICANT implications for Wing Bowl!!!!! I consider her the Gold standard in eating. (although Chip winning the GD thing cant be ignored)
Tim setting a world record against Rich shows there is teeth to his accomplishment.
nice showing Seaver! Hopefully we’ll match up in Krystals.
Pat was the only runaway, but I’m sure those guys gave it all they had.
I wish I was as good an Eater as I am a fan!!!!! I feel like I should have been somewhere….I just drank alot instead.
🙁

Kolache results are accurate for 1st through 3rd (Bertoletti, Erb, and Wach). Fourth place was a three way tie with David Amiel, Michael Netzinger and J. Varuch all eating 19. Skinny Boy Lane ate 18 for seventh place and Jason Smith ate 17 for eighth place. The kolaches were cherry-filled and Pat was one and a half plates away from moving onto the prune filled ones. David Amiel almost suffered a reversal but was able to keep it in his mouth until moments after the contest concluded, fortunately he went backstage. State fair employees were called over from the tilt-a-whirl to assist in his post-contest activities & clean up.

You should have demanded she pick it up or DQ her.

So Sonya actually came in second. I can’t believe that she was the only one to drop debris. She is one of the cleanest eaters on the circuit. Eyes just focused on her. Why not just deduct 1/2 pound (or 16 wings) from her totals and be done with it, as to ensure you don’t have to worry about her placing in the top 3.

Mr. Wright you don’t understand the rules. (Aren’t you the same one who asked the question on whether Koby participated recently in Japan against some nobodys?)
EVERYbody drops a bit of food here and there, but they are normally very small amounts. If you were the judge there would be no contests at all, because everybody would be disqualified. Have you ever looked in the cups during the hot dog competitions, for example? If you did you’d be disqualifying EVERY eater.
As I said earlier, Sonya is a neat eater. I’m not saying Sonya is spotless in her eating, but she is on the very low end of the food dropping continuum.
Anyway, you’ll probably get your wish, because I firmly believe that such tactics will soon be embraced to allow some of the lesser eaters to finish ahead of Sonya.
And she likely never ate 62 Krystals, according to your logic. She probably dropped a dozen on the ground and finished with only 50. The judge(s) “gave her” the 62 total just for publicity ….yeah, right.

What i find so amazing Rhonda is that everyone comes running to Sonya’s defense like bodyguards. When anything negative is mentioned about other eaters noone gives a shit.Poor little Sonya this and poor little Sonya that. What the fuck is she the queen of the nile? Did i say anything that terrible about her? She is a great eater no doubt but all these people like yourself that come running to her defense like she is some god is getting ridiculous. Join the Sonya fan club or become the president . I make a little joke about a DQ and everyone wants to hang me! Geeez

I don’t know if Bob, Chip and / or Pat B will be in Buffalo for the wings. If Sonya shows she will cruise to victory. If she doesn’t it will be between Chip and Bob, depending on who attends

Talking about DQ-ing someone for piddly crap like dropping a few slivers of meat is not a joke, not to me. If a judge can fairly accurately ascertain an amount that was dropped, then that amount SHOULD be deducted. But it needs to be the same standard for everyone.
The reason many (certainly not all) people rush to defend Sonya is simply out of professional respect and courtesy. That’s how I can tell if many of the posts on this Web site are from other eaters — the vast majority are respectful of one another and courteous. And I would venture to say that Sonya feels the same way about other eaters.
She is certainly no Cleopatra. I think she’s just a nice, simple blue collar type person who enjoys being in the limelight when she has the chance, just as I would. But I’m not good enough at anything to garner that kind of attention. I’m no Sonya, Crazy Legs, or Eater “X.” I wish I was but I’m not.
But I will rush to the defense of either one of those eaters (and many others) at the drop of a hat, especially Sonya. She’s just a little tiny thing for God’s sake, a little girl trying to make a buck in a man’s world. It’s got to be tough. I would be scared to death, and I really feel for her.

I can’t believe you posted those totals. I ended up with 2.8 lbs according to the weights on Saturday and that is a 9 minute total considering that is when I finished my third tray and was waiting for someone to bring me some more wings for the rest of the contest. They ran out of wings – that contest was f-ed up but not as f-ed up as the contest on Sunday. Niether of those contests should count for anything.

She also makes mention on her site that she appreciates all the emails she gets but please dont be offended if she cant write back because she has very little time. Does it take that much to type a few words in response? Noone can be that pressed for time. Rhonda Evans why dont you show your face at some of these contests so we could see who the hell you really are

I also heard that during the B Wing contest when food was replinished the wings were too hot to eat. But I’m sure it was a difficult time for the event staff in the presence of such lousy weather. They are human. However, running out of food is like running out of tennis balls during a major tournament.

Its nice to see that the more things change, the more they stay the same. If there is ANY chance that you may run out of food, you MUST lower the time limit. Preferably in advance of the beginning of the contest.
Standing there for 3 minutes w/o food is unforgivable. Was a rookie MCing/judging this contest?! I can’t believe the Shea’s would make that kind of error.
Regarding the Sonya stuff, I disagree about the neatness of her eating. She may be neater than Boone, but Kevin’s dogs are neater than him.
Good for her, for not picking the food off the floor, if she claims it wasn’t hers.
People do come to Sonya’s defense much quicker than any other eater… I believe there are many reasons for this. 1. She is female. 2. She is tiny. 3. Her command of the english language isn’t as good as it can be. 4. Her fans tend to be women (more so than any other eater) & women are more sensitive to EVERYTHING.
I & speedeat have received alot of the venom for what OTHERS have said about her. We did print it, but it came from others. Still, what we wrote was benign, especially when compared to what’s been written about other eaters.
I absolutely respect Ms. Thomas as an eater & competitor. Always have!

I was at the WingFest in Buffalo, and yes, they did run out of wings. There were several eaters signalling for more who didn’t get them right away and at the end, didn’t get them at all. Toward the end, last two minutes or so, Chip was going back through his tray cleaning what he’d eaten.
Was a rookie MC’ing? Nope – George Shea himself, and Charles Hardy judging. As for the part about waiting for 3 minutes for food? I can’t speak to that, but I don’t think it was that long. I just don’t think they anticipated the quantity that went down, but when you’re feeding a group, the first rule is ALWAYS over-prepare!
The Buffet Bowl was a disappointment in my opinoin – the trays weren’t equal in terms of weight, the food wasn’t what it was supposed to be, and the rules were not who ate the most in 8 minutes, it was who finished first. What happened after Bob Shoudt won was a debacle…because they couldn’t weigh the rest of the eaters for 2nd and 3rd, they had to start the contest again for an eat-off. And to boot, the contest started 90 minutes late, but we were sort of expecting that. It got semi-ugly for one eater who had to catch a plane, and I hope he made it.
As far as I’m aware, results were
Bob Shoudt came in first at 5:45
Arturo Rios came in second, but I haven’t seen times
Jammin’ Joe LaRue came in third
PLEASE – these are by no means “official” – just what I know by virtue of having been there.

Gentleman Joe, I don’t know you, only OF you, but I respect you’re not being afraid to say what you think, even if you are a often calloused in your remarks, which I don’t agree with, but that’s you and that’s your right, which I respect. (By the way, I visit Speedeat.com often, and wish you posted more often.)I also respect you as a competitive eater, as I’ve been following that sport for years, well before you left the IFOCE.
I admit, like you say, that women are likely Ms Thomas’ biggest fans, along with people who naturally pull for the underdog. And for people that are new to the sport, she IS the underdog automatically by her petite size, because everyone I see is much larger than her.
I know people on this site (or any site) get tired of others going on and on about Sonya, just as they would Joey, now that he wins every contest he participates in, except against Kobayashi. That gets very old and I am perhaps more guilty than most. I’ll really try to tone it down. So on to another subject for Rhonda, at least for a few days, unless I have to come to her defense.
Thanks Joe for helping me see the light, in a nondisrespectful way.

After reading Rhonda’s last comment about Menchetti it is safe to assume that Rhonda Evans and Crazy Legs mom are not one and the same. That can be safely put to rest. In commenting on Lady Lenore’s assesment of the buffalo contest., last year there was no problem with wing supply . They gave us plenty to start with . Not sure but it was enough. The wings tasted like shit as far as im concerned they were lacking sauce and tasted similar to overfried tree branches. I cant speak for 2006 wings. Buffalo buffet 2005 each eater was supposedly given a tray of 10bs of food cannoli’s roast beef sandwiches, wings, perogies and something else i forgot. I would put my life savings that the buffet trays last year were not equal in weight. My tray had to be 13 -15lbs and i know i ate close to 6lbs. . As far as not starting the buffet on time. last year we were held up about 2hrs having to sit through a melissa etheridge impersonator . Subich was ready to drag her off the stage himself.

Rhonda i take offense to that remark that cleaning the shitter is more important than me or my comments regarding Sonya. Just because you cant have your period anymore doesnt mean that life is now all about taking a shit. What shitter are you referring to ? Your toilet bowl or the dog or cat litter box in your house? It seems that you know quite a bit about competitive eating. I wonder if Rhonda Evan’s is your real name or are you one of the IFOCE insiders having a blast at our expense. By the way i happen to have a masters degree and for you to make me out to be some piece of garbage with a phoney name that stumbled on this site is highly insulting.

Ed Charles I think it’s terrible the way you insult others on this site. I also don’t think anyone cares that you have a master’s degree.
You think that having a big time master’s makes you BETTER than others ?
Your mentioning it shows how shallow you really are, as there are many people who attend to this site who at least exercise more intelligence than you. As such I too believe that taking a dump is more important than reading your comments. At least the former serves a purpose.
