Erik “The Red” Denmark’s NYC trip report
Erik “The Red” Denmark has posted a trip report and gallery from his trip to New York City last month to compete in the date nut bread sandwich contest. Erik also went to the pizzeria Tim Janus works at where he met with Kobayashi.
updatedI misread the “one should never pass up this opportunity” as the opportunity to appear in a commercial with Kobayashi and Sonya Thomas instead of the opportunity to dine with Kobayashi. The entry has been corrected.

OJ, your post makes it sound as if Erik was in the commercial with Kobayashi-san and Sonya. This is not accurate. Furthermore, I do not think that Erik’s blog implies this, which is what your posting implies.
Thought you might care to know this…

What kind of commercial was it? Will it be on TV? When will it air? Why didn’t the IFOCE preannounce this? Seems like they miss many opportunities to market the sport. They treat these things like they’re trring to hide something. I don’t understand their reasoning. Shows I know very little if anything at all about the management of CE.

Sorry for the confusing sentence structure, I changed it to make it more clear.
Rhonda, I think the IFOCE wisely waits to announce things until they are finalized and ready to be presented to the public. There are many things going on behind the scenes that sometimes never get released because of problems. I am not really sure about the details of the commercial, I know it was for a large credit card company however.

The ifoce doesn’t promote the “sport”, they promote themselves & their highly paid sponsors.

Thanks Erik. What you say makes since. I guess if I were in their place I would do the same.
