Joey Chestnut obtains 4th Wing Bowl outsider slot

competitiveeatingnews.com reports that Wing Bowl 14 champion Joey Chestnut has received the penultimate IFOCE Wing Bowl slot and joins Sonya Thomas, Pat Bertoletti and Chip Simpson as non-Philly entrants. One more slot remains for out of towners.

    Humble, me and Wing Kong are all considered locals even though we’re ranked. We live in the Arbitron listening area.

    You really cant take anything for granted at WingBowl, strange things can happen and the three of us have seen it first hand. I just plan on being prepared and open to the idea of winning.

    You could say ‘It sucks for Steakbellie” at every IFOCE contest I’ve ever been to, but this one dont feel bad for me. I have only ONE guy who’s my better, between me and a prize. I’ve never had such good odds! Ususally it’s a pack!

    i’ll be honest with everyone the last slot should be awarded to me . I pioneered the wing bowl for non phily residents . 2 years ago my name was remove dfrom the list of entries and i couldnt get in the arena on time I walked with a broken foot for 2 hrs in the snow and slush I was treated preety shabaly to say the least..don lerman

    I’ve never met you, but I hope to before you go completely senile.

    You WERE a pioneer. Everyone knows that. And they respect what you DID. You haven’t shown anything for a long time, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But you have to realize that seeing you compete at Wing Bowl in the year 2007 would be a disgrace.

    Next and final slot “should” be Tim “Eater X” Janus! (I’m glad to see that they didn’t skip over Joey, simply because he won last year.) One caveat, however: Tim has admitted that he’s not crazy about eating wings in competition. He stated that in an interview (that I read somewhere). So if he declines, though I don’t think he will, expect Rich or Rios to attend.

    Don I respect both your never-say-die attitude AND your confidence. But Don you simply DO NOT have the stomach capacity to even finish above last place of the IFOCE eaters already chosen — unless a heck of a lot of wings (like 50+) are deducted from others’ totals.

    It’s time to temper your confidence with reality. Don’t further spoil the legendary status that you’ve earned by writing checks that your mouth and stomach can’t cash — and aren’t expected to. Please.

    Don, perhaps your true friends are those who still revere and want to remember the LEGENDARY Don “Moses” Lerman for his past accomplishments, and not as someone whose pride cost him that legendary status.

    This is a different league now Don. Accept it, lose weight, move on, and you can still eat competitively, but choose your battles appropriately. This IS NOT one for the choosing, even if there was a chance you competed.

    Don, you only finished ahead of me in Wb 11 because I saw Wingador had me beat. So, I slowed down cuz I thought I had 2nd place locked up, because it was only you & me, & you looked like you were going to puke the entire 2nd 14 minutes. If I didn’t have a mouthful myself, I would have yelled at Morganti for the disgusting way he was trying to get you to throw up. Screaming in your face to get it over with already. It was the worst thing i’ve ever witnessed in a contest. (This is not sour grapes. The prizes for 2nd & 3rd if I remember correctly were the same, & Don has legitimately beaten me at least once, at a Matzoh ball qualifier) There is something wrong with all of us for wanting to be in Wing Bowl. Me included.

    Make up your mind, are you retired or not?, have you lost the weight or not? Please stop bitchin about respect etc. when you are retired. Frankly, its disrespectful to the rest of us, that a retired eater is complaining about not being invited into a contest.

    The final spot should be a quality eater who is also an “entertainer” I would go with Boone or Philbin. They both can eat well, are entertaining, would handle the crowd well & both have a hair trigger on a reversal that would make the crowd happy, if & most likely when they lose it.

    Damn Don I think Rhonda is speaking the truth in love. I understand the frustration I always liked looking at your wing eating techniques on you tube at such but Joey, Pat, Bob and Steakbellie are going to be a steam roller in Wing Bowl. Don I know if you got back into eating shape you’d kill everybody and do it with flair, but I don’t thing Rhonda is being malicious.

    I’ve got an idea, Don.

    Go buy a bunch of wings and cook ’em up.
    Get the video camera going.

    Eat for 14 minutes….. record total.
    take a 20 minute break
    Eat for 14 more minutes……record total and add it with previous total.
    take a break for 15 minutes.
    Eat for 2 minutes….. record total and add it to the two previous.

    Maybe if we see it, we’ll believe it.
    Until then, you’re talking out your ass.
