Give me anyone who really wants to compete against other people, and not only food itself–Gretchen, Kristina, and Amy, for example.

There’s no way those wings that girl is eating in that YouTube video are clean enough to pass muster in a real competition. Where’s the judge?! (But it was pretty impressive to watch.)

Well. . .Kate Stelnik obviously has a tremendous longterm capacity and is the most well known eater on the list, IMO. It would defintely be interesting to see what her short term capacity and quickness would be if she started entering speed eating competitions. The first couple would probably be a train wreck, but she has tremendous potential. And she’d be really marketable because she’s cute.

    Kevin
Very few of us believe she ate that thing.
I believe that Lori Weiss did eat that thing. Too bad she’s not nearly as pleasant to the eye.

Having been there, eaten and failed, I have trouble believing that Kate and Lori managed to eat the Denny’s challenge in the alloted amount of time. No one in the competitve eating world has been able to finish it. There have been major offers to them to join the ranks and have they have declined each time. I can’t say that their feat is impossible but I have my doubts.

The thing about the Denny’s challenge is this. They don’t put a judge over your shoulder for the entire three hour period, so eaters are pretty much on the honor system. If they want to give a little to a friend, they can. If they want to go to the bathroom and purge, they can. I’m not saying this happened in Stelnick or Weiss’ case, but it could have.

If there was big money at stake or any money for that matter there would be a judge. This might help. When the burger gets luke warm or cold ask them to reheat it. They are real good about that and will reheat as many times as you want

Well; that is a little suspect if they let you use the restroom in the middle of it. I would have assumed that would be grounds for disqualification – since obviously anyone can empty their stomach and suddenly have more room, big deal. Still, without any proof that anyone did cheat or fix the challenge, I still have to assume that she did it.

You know what would be cool, if IFOCE had an official event at denny’s – or other restaurants with challenges – with the top eaters there. Since apparently they are discouraging unsanctioned restaurant challenges, it would rule if they were able to strike a deal with some of these places and have some long events. There is a lot of eaters who would excel at an endurance contest moreso than the speed contests. How cool would it be if there was some 1hr or 3hr events on the circuit?

The foodmarket article about Kate Stelnick

    http://foodmarket.com/news/2005011701.html

says she did not go to the bathroom at all

Denny’s Beer Barrel staff vouched for the validity of her valiant effort.

“We do not suspect foul play,” Kristy reassuringly assured me.

“She had no outside assistance whatsoever,” confirmed Denny. “She didn’t even go to the restroom.”

from what i gather, these independent restaurants probably would not be able to afford the admi$$ion. since there is a serious lack of official ifoce events right now they should allow it what do they have to lose? sanction challenges and that would get their name out and the eaters would have something to do.

The picture of Kate’s Burger was a lot smaller than the One that many others have done.I believe this was a promo set up by Denny’s Beer Barrel.

Kate until you prove you are legit you will alway’s be scroutinized .

I don’t believe it for a Second Kate.
