Philadelphia qualifer expected entrants
CityPaper.net has a paragraph about Saturday’s Nathan’s qualifier in Philadelphia with some of the expected entrants:
The winner of this qualifier will earn a spot at the big table — the Nathan’s Famous championship, held at Coney Island every Fourth of July. Come cheer on last year’s winner, Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas, as well as Yellowcake, Wing Kong, Steakbellie and Philly’s own “Humble” Bob Shoudt, who put away 28 in 2006. “It’s the same thing as any contest — you need to find a rhythm,” says Shoudt. “You can’t listen to your body telling you to slow down.”

Philly guy… these are the events you are supposed to take part in. Stick to the qualifiers and the small events until you actually place in something. You might even do something better this time than your stellar last place finish at triprewards.

Good luck Philly guy. So what if you only do 12 or 14 or whatever. With the exception of Kobayashi, all top eaters became that way only through experience, which breeds improvement. So don’t you or any other eater who enjoys the activity of eating competitively let others disuade you.
Without exception, those who throw stones at others have personal issues they need to attend to, and the more frequent the stone throwing, the larger the issues, and the more emphasis they need to place on resolving them.
I bet even Dr. Simpson would attest to that.

Rhonda… why do you have to be so “moral” and judgemental? If CE is a sport than fans should be allowed to heckle who they want. Usually the worst teams/players are heckled because people think they suck. This is a fan’s right. Obviously some CE fans think Philly guy sux. I for one do not think he sucks, but I think he took a spot from one of the better eaters at the triprewards wings contest. Pete should do all the smaller events and qualifiers he can get into. Practice makes people better. But to go on the big stage with such mediocre eating skills is like a minor league player getting the call to the big leagues when he has no business being there. I hope he has learned his lesson and will stick to the small shows until he improves his skills.

I think eating alongside the top eaters can only improve one’s performance. Philly guy has the right to do whatever contests he wants. Though I guess by the same token, people have the right to tease him about it. I hope he continues to improve and gets the last laugh.

Tiny Sonya Thomas will put on a show for her fans in Philadelphia. Also, I don’t know who that crazy, loud, older guy is who follows H. Bob around, but the next time he gets in Sonya’s face and heckles her like he did at the Meatball tournment he should be escorted from the premises.
Humble Bob condoning such antics towards the tiniest competitor makes him seem anything but Humble.
Don’t worry Sonya, my buddies and I intend to be in Philly and if that happens we will remove him from the premises ourselves, so that you can concentrate on eating.

I was just kidding about the Tic-Tac comment too (Philly Guy knows that…not sure everyone else does). At any table you’re going to have a wide range of eaters with different skill levels. Just like life, and that’s what makes CE (and all sports) so poetic.

one eater, a very large man whose website is a crucible of anger, paranoia, and thinly veiled personal attacks, will place 11 hot dogs inside of his mouth at the end of the contest, completely disregarding the spirit of the chipmunking rules. but I won’t name names. 🙂 hopefully, an eater/judge will penalize him.

Cosmetic reasons eh? She’ll outeat 3/4 of the best eaters in the history of CE. And she remains the biggest draw, with the exception of the world champ himself.
And HDBs, admittedly (on her own accord), are not one of her best foods, yet, she will still approach the double deuce. And she doesn’t even practice, probably because she values her health.The woman is a natural all the way and that’s the way it should be.
Pound for pound, Sonya Thomas is the absolute greatest known competitive in the history of the world, bar none!
The heavies won’t admit that, because they can’t eat enough to change that fact, but it is the absolute truth. Do the math. OJ already has with HDB’s — and no I am not OJ — and just look at Sonya’s quantities of oysters, lobster, eggs, cheesecake, wings, etc.; the fact is even more lopsided!
People say that CE is a sport. Okay, sport is about muscles. Every person’s muscles are supposed to support his own weight. The stomach is a muscle. So don’t give me excuses about thinner people having an advantage over heavier (not fat) opponents.
(Remember Sonya, Rona and Rhonda are FOR you; as such, who can be against you?)

Believe it or not I have to say that even I am pulling for Sonya this time and I think she might pull it out by a dog or so if she can eat what she did last year. I strongly dislike the fact that she gets heckled at all. Im all talk on eatfeats just to get a rise out of people but it would really p**s me off to actually see her get picked on either by another competitor or a Humble Jerk fan.Ive a damn mind to travel there myself to help keep that from happening. Thats bullshit.

Silly women! I wish absolutly zero ill will towards any competitor. I only zealously root for my absolute favorite eater Humble Bob. Bob if you must know encouraged me to continue with the sport at my very first contest and for that I will always be a Humble Bob fan.
On to your question of how many will I put away. I always plan on putting up a personal best. I must admitt Nathans Hotdogs are my Krytonite and a food I haven’t even begun to master. My body is strong but I always waiver after the 8 minute mark.

I guess those are the very reasons his site still holds the number one spot in CE all these years. Ive seen larger men in my days. You must be the angry one or maybe the jealous one???

Way to go Sonya!!!! I am sure everyone is shocked to hear that from me. But after finding some of what Sonya has been through previously I feel sort of guilty because even I have a conscience as concealed as i try to keep it.
I think that some of the eaters out there are two-faced jerks because smiling faces can tell lies and the IFOCE eaters are far far from being a big happy family. On the surface maybe but not really. Chestnut and Bertoletti used to be two of my favorite eaters next to Rich Lefevre but not anymore because thay have backstabbed him and the IFOCE let it happen. Richs home is near Vegas but Bertoletti goes all the way from Cgicago to knock him out and then Joey is now going to Richs secondary spot in Phoenix to qualify. Those two are bastards for doing that. Rich is retired and is not made of money and now has to pay travel costs twice or three times just to make it to the dance. and what goes around comes around. Those two losers are jerks. Joey is no hero whatsoever. Kick his ass Kobyashi.
