(Thanks Brian Cooley) The Chattanooga Times Free Press has an interview with Kobayashi conducted from his hotel in New York City. An audio clip of the interview is available. Kobayashi intends to compete in this fall’s Krystal Square Off IV regardless of whether he participates in the July 4 contest.

“regardless of whether he participates in the July 4 contest”? That makes it sound like he’s still unsure about whether he’ll participate. Hmmm.

The thing I love most about this, is that anyone who is familiar with temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) is completely aware that this is a complete scam on the part of Kobayashi. As great as an eater as he is, he has clearly tried to downplay his immenent loss. It’s almost pathetic. TMJ is the equivalent of tennis elbow! He would not be able to eat, let alone compete, if he was genuinely afflicted with it.
He’s going to eat approximately 60 HDBs…and still lose. And some will say he was injured. But the truth is, when he’s beaten this 4th of July, he was beaten by someone with less than half the eating experience he’s had! Greatest eater in the world….Yeah, go to a doctor and get your TMJ treated…or whatever excuse for your loss that you can think of.
