ESPN2 announced it will rerun the 2006 Krystal Square Off finals at noon Eastern Sunday followed at 1pm by the 2006 Johnsonville Brat Eating World Championship held at Sheboygan, WI's Brat Days festival. The programs are part of ESPN8: The Ocho, an entire day devoted to non-traditional fields of competition.
Krystal filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy today. The chain known for its sliders held the Krystal Square Off burger eating contest from 2004 to 2009. The $50,000 awarded by the 2009 Krystal Square Off is probably the largest cash purse for an American eating contest. The company will look to continue operations after reorganizing, which it was able to do following a 1997 bankruptcy filing. (via Stephanie Wu)
Bob Shoudt has uploaded a video of his attempt to eat 100 Krystal sliders. The burgers were eaten "picnic style" (no dunking or smashing). In the 6 year history of the Krystal Square Off, the only person to hit a triple digit total was Joey Chestnut (103) in 2007.

(via comment) WDEF reports they have received a statement from Krystal announcing that no Krystal Square Off burger eating contest will take place in 2010. The Square Off had the largest payouts in competitive eating with total prizes of $50,000 for last year's contest.

The 2009 Krystal Square off was announced on July 3. It has now been a month since that date and no official statement about this year's contest has been released. The new poll asks when (and if) you think Krystal Square Off VII will take place.

Has anyone heard any news about this year’s Krystal Square Off? KrystalSquareOff.com and the corresponding twitter have not been updated this year. Last year, the date of the finals (and 2 unspecified rules changes) was announced on July 3.

Notorious B.O.B. has posted a review of the 2009 Krystal Square Off finals to humblebob.com. He believes that three unnamed competitors should have been disqualified.
