The 2009 Krystal Square off was announced on July 3. It has now been a month since that date and no official statement about this year's contest has been released. The new poll asks when (and if) you think Krystal Square Off VII will take place.

Many of you come to this site thinking its a reliable news source when in fact BB.com reported several weeks ago there would be no Krystal squareoff. This info practically came from the horses mouth but no you wont believe that for a moment because eatfeats is number one. OJ why dont you just call Brad Whal like Seiken did and tell them your name is OJ Rifkin or use another name, instead of probing for an answer with a poll ? Before the ink is dry on this comment exepct asswipe with no life Rifkin to chime in almost immediately and post something negative about Seiken. 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2

Even if there is no Krystal Square Off this year, competitive eating remains alive, well and growing. All organizations are having new contests, restaurants are having new challenges, any place where eating is the main menu continues to add competitive eating events. You never know what is around the corner.

BeautifulBrian.com may have reported it first, but it was probably done so in an incomprehensible giant run-on sentence that you can only get to by clicking a bunch of stupid pictures first.

Krystal is smart and doesn’t need to pay MLE the outrageous promotion and advertising fees for a regional product that’s already well known.

Ok just stop with the hate dude. Geez what did the guy ever do that makes you hate on him that much?

Funny how the first 4 yrs of eatfeats existence OJ Rifkin had no problem with Brians incomprehensible run on sentences. I guess when hate takes over that person shows their true colors

Krystal started cutting back over the years anyhow on the tour. It just opens it up for thickburgers for Hardees

Perhaps Krystals has had a change of marketing management, perhaps Krystals is suffering from the economy, perhaps Krystals decided that aside from paying whatever they pay the Sheas, the expenses of putting on the contests no longer pay for what they receive. Hotels, cars, prize money etc. Perhaps they will do the same but only every other year. Perhaps anonymous is right too. The place to share information and ideas is on eatfeats. No perhaps, if, and or buts.

Hardee’s has a Thickburger contest at the Seymour, WI Hamburger Festival that will take place on Saturday this year.

The contest was an IFOCE event in 2003 and one of Sonya Thomas’ first victories

Wish I lived within five hundred miles of that one. I am going to be having one in my backyard on the 28th of this month. Well that is if Barlow shows up.

what’s this about the 28th? Sounds like the thick-headed eating thick burgers….I’m in! Of course, depending on female pain enhancer approval – just give me time to earn my brownie points

No Krystals? That’s a shame. Has the cancellation of the contest been officially confirmed by the Krystals folks? I just fired off an email to a corporate PR contact at Krystal in search of an answer. I’ll let everyone know if I hear anything.

I don,t like the tone of reporting on Brian,s site. It’s like visiting a whore house. It is so trashy.

Most eaters are totally unaffected by the “loss.” Not having Krystals helps level the financial playing field.

If Krystal’s is or is not in Jacksonville this Labor Day weekend, I’ll be there

If no Krystal’s at Jacksonville Landing, I’ll visit 2 Jacksonville area Krystal’s and consume 20 at one and 10 at the other to commemorate 2010

I ate at Krystals once… once.

Needless to say, I’m not surprised one bit to see them going out of business all over the place. Unless you offer a fair exchange in value to your customers, you cannot expect to go but only so far on “hype”.

Krystals is not going out of business. They have a wonderful product, and they know how to treat people. Other fast food places could learn a lot from them.

I’m somewhere between Hamburglar 1245 and Rhonda 735. I appreciate Krystals attempts to put up a world class eating contest each year. I think we can all agree, because it’s been said here on EatFeats many times, that Krystals is arguably the best sponsor in CE. That said, I too ate at Krystals once (ONCE). It’s fast food. Not much to say beyond that, but Rhonda is right in that they know how to treat people and that’s what sets them apart from the rest.

No Krystals this year will not slow anything down, for Krystals or for competitive eating. Leveling the playing field financially is a very good point. There are new and up and coming MLE events. Criticize as you may, their publicizing of them happens from the office for the sponsors and at times to keep the sponsors happy. Now that I think about it, they do not have a need to keep “us” informed. They ink their deals, do their whatevers. It is only because of eatfeats that we really know what is happening in the overall world of competitive eating. Basically, they do not really use the internet. New personnel, new ideas, those people come and go, so now there are some photos, some videos, but people’s attention span is very short. News happens when it happens. CNN already has Koby in their sights even as I write.
