Just how many people are on the “team?”

Very interesting question. Perhaps worth watching just to see, likely it is his “manager” Maggie James and whatever retinue hangs around with them. I wonder whether or not he can do the interview without his interpreter.

I’m going to guess that Johnnie, Naeder, Jimmy Lin, Goose, & maybe a few other west coasters.

Was Kobi not considered a draw enough, or at all, for Fallon not to list Kobi by name on the show’s website? “Record Setter” and “Wii U Demonstration” what the hell does that mean? Years back at the peak of Nathan’s days, Kobi would of been named as a guest to get interest in the show. It sounds like their going to have some salesperson on from Best Buy.

Normally guests on talk shows don’t get paid to appear on show. I wonder how Kobi agent handled this one ?

I don’t think it’s a matter of “draw” ..those record-setter guys have been on Jimmy (I call him “Jimmy”) before and they were probably already on the schedule and the record that was being attempted wasn’t determined yet.

That’s an honor I can’t yet claim, Joe! 🙂
I’m not part of Kobayashi’s team or inner circle. Didn’t get an outright invite to Crif Dogs for that matter. My communications with the Crif Dogs contest reps suggests to me the team is bigger than Koby and Maggie.

KOBI IS COMPETITIVE EATING said
June 14, 2012 @ 8:07 pm
This appearance by the founder of competitive eating and the only TRUE legend of competitive eating will be a Crifs Dog Classic success. Really hope Fallon mentions Crif Dogs Classic you can bet it will be mentioned in some fashion. Joey gonna do Leno? Hmm that would be a interesting interview (yawn)… NOT! LOLssssss
Congratulations to Crifs and Team Kobi… now ramp up the momentum all the way to Brooklyn on th 4th.

What significant competitive eater has Kobi beat in the last two and a half years? Furious Pete? Kobi is just shaking his hiney for any kind of attention he can get.

The only event comparable to the Beatles getting back together when john lennon was alive is a return match between kobayashi and chestnut

Found this web site while viewing a Nathans hot dog contest Youtube video. The description reccomended checking this place out for competitive eating info. Been looking around and think its a good web site. But have to say… I could not name a any eater except Kobi… asked some co-workers they also mentioned one name. I see the majority of post seem to be from hardcore eating competitors or groupie of competitive eaters. Kobi is the Babe Ruth, Dale Earnhardt, Mario Andretti, Hulk Hogan, John Force, Albert Einstien, etc… he is a icon which competitive eating will not likely see the likes of again. I think average everyday folks overwhemingly associate Kobi with eating, everyone else is by both name and appearance just not nearly as recognizable. The only other eater I know off the top of my head is Crazy Conti and I only know he is notorious for cheating, looks like he needs a bath andhas bad hair.

Granted that Anon 11:44 is truely a 1st time visitor of this website I really appreciate that insite. The one thing I have to say is that with anything, if the media coverage increases for competitive eating so will the # of names that stick. Awhile back it was just Micheal Jordan, now theres like a million star basketball players. The televising of CE is so few and far between that not many “icons” can be established. Kobi is definitly on top, and Legs has found his place in peoples minds, but there are many other deserving who I hope get recongnition soon.

If 11:41 doesn’t think the “The Black Widow” is as synonomous with competitive eating as Kobi and if not more among women, well he or she hasn’t had his cable updated from basic and is still working on a Coleco computer. The people who don’t know Kobayashi’s name and refer to him as that “small Japanese kid,” in the same sentence will bring up the “tiny Asian gal.” My gosh, she’s been on Leno, Kimmell, ESPN, every network numerous times, commercials, probably every paper in country, Ripley’s, I could go on and on. In fact, there have been several tv dramas and sitcoms episodes based on a small Asian woman who could eat a ton of food. I once saw an ad in Scotland that bragged a dryer could hold as much in weight that Sonya “The Black Widow” could eat in hotdogs. 11:41, you’re obviously one of Kobi’s lackies that is so jealous of the attention MLE gets while Kobi can’t even get his name mentioned on website promoting the show his going to be on. When Kobi left MLE and being on ESPN, his demise started and now when someone goes to a minor league game Kobi’s at, their response is I didn’t that kid was still alive. Kobi’s doing minor league baseball and Crif dogs, Shoudt’s tossing out the opening pitch at a Mets game for Nathan’s.

Sonya doiesn’t need the attention. Koby does. Sonya has a life, or at least a job, outside of competitive eating, and she probably enjoys it more.

Some of you two faced major league eaters that praised Kobayashi and took pictures with him now have nothing but negative things to say about him.

I saw late night & Jimmy & assumed it was Kimmel. Really, two late night Jimmy’s! Really, really?! Which is why I assumed the people I mentioned would be on w/Kobi.
This Recordsetter is a very poor mans Guinness.
I think even BB has a shot to break 54 cocktail Weenie’s in a minute. I guarantee I can.
While I do not agree w/the Kobi haters, for once, after this appearance I can almost understand some of what may bother or annoy them.

A, 1220, maybe that’s because Kobi now wears a different face.

While what I saw was no more silly than a burping contest as promotion, it does seem that this is a big stretch for Kobayashi and a downturn. The only thing I can see about Crifs and the contest is the connection to Sports Illustrated which he seems to have been establishing. He still does not give interviews, seems somewhat wooden at best. Overall no new information and nothing to brag about.
