The Frig is a really nice guy. Personally, I like him a lot, but an eater he is not. Eighty to 90 percent of all the eaters in either the independent or the IFOCE ranks would absolutely mop the floor up with the Frig. (Witness the 2003 Nathans Finals where he merely had lunch and ate a total of four hot dogs.)

I live in D.C. and most Redskin fans who have watched the local sports channels and read the sports section of the Post regularly the past few years know that for Randy Thomas of the Redskins the story is far different. While Mr. Thomas is not much of a speed eater, he can eat, and eat, and eat, and eat. He is the football version of Gal Sone, and loves restaurant challenges.

    Fridge is a putz.

He single handed caused hate and discontent at the pre Nathans finals 2003.Also started a brawl between Chris Eyre and his wife which also ended up in Divorce .He ate a couple dogs and quit.He is a loser but a very good football player.

While his appearence may have caused discontent, it was not due to his actions. It was due to jealousy of him by most of the eaters, who take themselves & the “sport” to seriously. My wife was hanging out w/ The Fridge & Christine? & I didn’t come close to beating her. In fact, I encouraged to hang w/ The Fridge.

I saw him in Buffalo & he claimed to remember me from Coney & was quite nice.

Dog man has it right, Rhonda and Joe have it wrong. The man is a giant jerk and wouldn’t be doing any of this if he weren’t being compensated so generously. He acts like a prima donna and thinks he is too important to socialize with most of the other eaters. He is the grammatical equivlant to Don Lerman and. like Don. is all about himself.

Why is there something WRONG w/doing it for the $$$?!? It may not be the sole reason why i’m involved, (Fun, Comraderie, Etc.) but if I were a SuperPaul, with nearly NO financial inducement, I wouldn’t do it, nor would the Shea’s, Kobe, Chestnut & a good chunk of the rest.

Why do you think some of the legends don’t do it anymore?! No names, I don’t want to specifically call out the guilty, but everyone should know who they are. Its because they can’t compete w/the new breed that’s younger. thinner, & more willing to take chances w/there health.

I would probably do similar things, (new breed) if I were 20-25 yrs old, thought I was invincable, single w/no kids.

Joe is right. The IFOCE (and I’m not picking on that organization) surely is not in the business of CE for health or altruistic reasonds. Money is the golden fleece.

I remember the 2003 20-20 T.V. special on CE, in which it was proclaimed that when the Sheas saw the throngs of people at Nathan’s, they saw a potential Gold Mine to tap into. And they have exploited that opportunity.

Why should it be any different for the players? It shouldn’t.

If the “Frig” could not capitalize monetarily, would it be worth his while to participate in CE events? I think not.

And having learned to make a buck surely does not make him a bad guy, stuck up, or anything else that is negative. This country was built on the ability (and the right ) to use one’s talents and vision to make a buck.
