It is very old news that Shirota defeated Kobayashi on Food Battle Club. He acknowledged this fully in interviews in the past. Shirota became a television talent like Gal Sone and then left competitive eating for other things including marrying and opening or joining a family restaurant. Not sure which but again, for those who have followed competitive eating for a long time, it is very old news. What is great though is that these old videos are being posted. Thank you OJ for being archivist and getting us the latest.

Who cares about nostalgia? So what? It must be a slow news day.

Sometimes less is more. That should be the rule here. Too much information is almost as bad as too little.

No 2:51, in Japan he was huge when competitive eating was huge. Shirota only beat him once, only once, and TK said that when asked in interviews. Have you ever been beaten? Yes, by a bear, that was quotable. He said yes about Shirota many times but interviewers did not care. It was not a catchy thing to say like yes, by a bear. He is likely still the best known name in competitive eating, the most recognized name in the US AND in Japan and perhaps even the world. That is not going away whereas Joey Chestnut and his name will if it has not already. The rest of the names? The names best known which will last are likely Kobayashi, Sonya and Crazy Legs. That is just the way it is.

I don’t give a shit what the eatfeats data piss pot says. Kobayashi did not lose to Shirota three times. Information such as this makes eatfeats seem like a crock!

This information is based upon automatic translation and if you believe everything you read, then well, competitive eating does not have “scientific” research. What IS the point of this I am unsure. It seems very strange to me. It is a given that the Sheas are showmen and they are selling a product or representing products. Like Barnum and Bailey and PR stuntmen, the do not pretend to be journalists. What is the point ojrifkin of this recent redo of old history. Please enlighten the readers.

If Shirota did top Kobayashi three times, that is ancient history, and he had better hang on to and cherish those memories. Kobayashi would lap him now.

Do not think Shirota lapped Kobayashi more than once but agree fully with Rhonda. Either way, Shirota was a short lived phenom in the CE world, he did not keep anything up in Japan after the Battle Clubs, became a “television talent”, just looking interesting, eating not in real competitions, judge on cooking stuff, guest on shows, things like that. They he left even that. He came to the US once for Nathans, I think, you can look up his record, he certainly absolutely did not beat Kobayashi then. Rhonda Rules! Ancient history, still do not understand why OJ is pursuing this. Seems out of characteristic, out of general neutrality on his part though he certainly does look for facts, facts, facts, such as they seem to be and seems to want to prove that MLE basically follows no rules as it were. He is not alone if he thinks that, but again, still unsure what this kind of muckraking of Kobayashi proves or does not prove.

Thanks for your kind words 10:45. Many people maintain the opposite sentiment, for whatever reason.
It is blatantly foolish for anyone to question Koby’s talents, especially since he has markedly improved upon the extraordinary talent he displayed over a decade ago.
I have sometimes questioned some of his business-related decisions, but never his talent; and he’s a gentleman to boot.
