Thanks KR. Rhonda, I will definitely be in Chicago Sunday. Considering my diet which has primarily consisted of pickled jalapenos lately, I will be ready to put up a huge number on Sunday. Anything can happen in peppers.

    From another thread:

    The Sicilian

“On another note, Erik the Red reported that he did set a record in Jalapenos back home the day before with 26 in one minute and another record in Habanero’s I don’t remember that number, Erik will have to help with that #.”

Hey Carey. I ate 26 jalapenos in one minute to break the Guinness record and I ate 32 habaneros in one minute right after that to establish a new record. I will have more details on my website soon. The aftermath of the habaneros were very painful.

How did the habaneros go faster than the jalapenos? Had you just burned your tongue out completely 🙂 Can’t wait to read about it!

Good lord; 32! I’m in pain from eating just a couple seeds from a habenero. I can’t wait to read the details on your site. Glad you’re alive after that!

So Pat B ate 191 jalapenos in less than 7 minutes and 26 in 1 minute is the record? 7×26 = 182. Something doesn’t add up, or should I say multiply correctly.

But 32 habaneros? That’s truly amazing.

his 26 and Pat’s 191 were set under differing rules………. no way to compare………….

Mike, the record is a Guinness record, not an IFOCE record and is based on different rules including having to swallow each pepper and showing your mouth before moving on to the next one and each pepper being at least 3″ in length. Obviously, the record would be about twice as much if I could just keep shoving peppers in and swallow bigger chunks like I did yesterday. I finished 20 jalapenos in about 20 seconds yesterday.

Good explanation Erik. I really was wondering, since the numbers were so disparate. I wasn’t bagging on any of you, since I have no desire to try to better any of your numbers.

Congrats on the new records Erik. This brings up something that I was wondering for the longest time. I couldn’t find any eating records listed in the Guiness book last time I looked, and the website wasn’t easily navigated to find any. Does anyone have a list of foods and rules for Guiness records dealing with competitive eating?
