Jamie McDonald takes 365 days cash prize lead
The sidebar has been updated to list both money won in 2013 and over the past 365 days. (Full listings: 2013 | 365 days). According to the eatfeats database, Jamie McDonald has taken the lead in both tables after winning $20,000 in Wing Bowl 21. (If the list took the value of non-cash prizes into account, Dave “US Male” Goldstein would probably be third after winning a car valued at $38,220 in Wing Bowl 21.) A list of Joey Chestnut’s and Jamie McDonald’s contests over the past 12 months follows after the jump

Face it, anyone who denies that Jamie McDonalt is not one of the greatest competitive eaters in the world is fooling themselves. He is right up there with Joey, Kobi, and Pat. Nuff said!

I usually don’t comment on here, but I’ve been finding it much more unappealing to follow this website as I believe OJ has started to turn a cold shoulder to MLE event/news. I might be a bit bias, as I am an MLE eater (who prefers to stay anonymous), but when numbers like this are produced and given a Bold Headline, whereas when Rich Shea tweets some sneak peeks of the upcoming Nathan’s Qualifiers, the biggest Competitive Eating Event of the year, and that doesn’t get a bold headline, it really hits me the wrong way. Obviously this is only one case, but I feel its become the trend. I might be wrong, I might be taking things the wrong way, but that’s my 2 cents.
Kudos to Jamie & Joey for both being so successful in the past year.

This site was never intended to focus solely on mle. It was meant to cover a broader spectrum

I need to use the bold headline for posts that contain tables.
I will do a bold headline post about the 2013 qualifier schedule when it is released.

There are less MLE contest nowadays which = less news.
MLE is losing contest at a alarming rate while non-MLE/IFOCE (independant) contest/competitions/exhibitions are on the increase.
MLE contest from Sept 1st 2012 thru Feb 28 2013 (6 month period) total: 10
Just the year before…
MLE contest from Sept 1st 2011 thru Feb 28 2012 (6 month period) total: 33

So now he is taking the lead? This man is one selfish ingrate. He operated like a temporary walk on free agent when he snuck into MLE contests last year , not once did he even think of stepping back and giving his spot to a ranked member that was put on waitlist. Or better yet, costing Subich a money spot in pulled pork.

One thing about MLE they know who the self absorbed assholes of this world are which is why they put a cap on allowing steroid shooting bodybuilders into the organization. I could name two off the top of my head. God job guys

Thanks for clarifying that OJ, I wasn’t aware that was the case. I can’t say that changes my overall perspective entirely, but its good to know. As far as everyone responding to me, it is true that MLE contests have diminished greatly this year, but that doesn’t mean that you should belittle what still goes on with the League. I really think 2013 is going to be a very exciting year, maybe even moreso then 2012. I’m not only looking forward to competing, but to seeing where other eaters will stand up to each other.

2013 earnings are irrelevant. Not enough data. Too early. Lots of work for O.J. just to satisfy someone’s curiosity. Not worth the trouble.

Whatever happened to the ref’s call stands. Something is really wrong with the person who keeps insisting that DG does not “deserve” his prize. Crazy jealousy has no place here.

who are YOU to say who deserves anything? It seems like it was won fairly and by the rules. A jealous individual or just a flat out hater.

Here’s why Joey Chestnut actually makes more. Joey’s prize money averages about $1,600.00 a contest and Jamie McDonald’s prize money averages about $600.00 a contest. Hourly wages for Joey more than doubles that of McDonald. Nathan’s puts Chestnut on a more recognized national stage, therefore he rarely has to pay for travel and board. In addition, Joey gets appearance fees to attend more non-competition events. McDonald’s lucky to get reimbursed for gas money and crappy flea bag hotels. The problem is McDonald has really nothing unique to offer, that Pete Czerwinski hasn’t already cornered the market on. Of course big men can eat a lot of food, what unique media draw does McDonald bring to the table? Not much. In addition, doing over 75 contests and challenges a year and eventually you’re going to run out of lucrative prizes. Some challenges McDonald does for free, so restaurants will find that paying him anything is pointless. Horrible business model.
