Nathan’s qualifier circuit to open March 23 on Coney Island Boardwalk
update March 8 Crain’s New York has an incorrect claim that the March 23 qualifier will be the first Coney Island Nathan’s contest held on a date other than July 4. Erik Denmark won a Coney Island qualifier on July 3, 2006.. In the 1970s, contests were held at various days in the summer, including Labor Day and Memorial Day weekend.
BrooklynPaper.com reports that the 2013 Nathan’s qualifier circuit will open on March 23 at the Nathan’s location on the Coney Island Boardwalk. Expected competitors include Tim “Eater X” Janus, Eric “Badlands” Booker, Crazy Legs Conti and “Michelle” [sic] Marie Mele. The Nathan’s location on the boardwalk will open March 18 and the main restaurant at Surf & Stillwell is hoping to complete post-Sandy reconstruction by Memorial Day.
update Registration is now open for the boardwalk qualifier. The first qualifier of the Hooters circuit in Panama City, FL is also accepting entrants.
IFOCE.com lists the qualifier cities as Las Vegas, Boston, Miami and Naples, FL, Atlanta and Savannah, GA, St. Paul, MN, Queens, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Calgary and East Rutherford, NJ.
update #2 2012 qualifer sites which are not listed include Garden City, MI, Atlantic City, Concord, NC, Thackerville, OK and Tempe, AZ. If no qualifiers are added, there will be one qualifier each in the central (St. Paul), mountain (calgary) and Pacific (Las Vegas) time zones.
update #3 A press release says the finals will start at noon and be televised on ESPN.

Just a word of warning . Anyone that thinks they will show up with a cheap cell phone camera making hollow threats in the crowd and yelling out perversion, is in for a rude awakening. Police have been notified 3 weeks in advance. Order of protection has also been invoked on a certain individual

I asked Allen if he will miss Nathan’s after so many years of involvement. He said he will not miss the the expense of hotdogs and buns, training, throwing up, 100 degree contest heat, and the always present possibility of being screwed by George Shea.

Cholesterol shouldn’t get too high if you get rid of those HDB before you digest them. The occasional hot dog practices are not too bad, it’s the daily water training that’s dangerous. If shredder quit something its because he lost interest.

Daily water training is for idiots that have a secret death wish. Water is no magic pill. Either you were born with capacity or you weren’t

1 Qualifier on the west coast and 4 in the South ?. They need 1 in California and 1 in Arizona as well . Lots of good eaters from the West – Stonie , Sudo , Lesco , Denmark, Juan Rodriguez , ect

2:29, cute, naive and stupid. Then why didn’t Tim Janus eat 50HDB in 2004 at the Ducks qualifier? Instead he eat a bunch of dogs and slammed the buns on the ground in frustration. All the heavy weights water train. CASE CLOSED!

@8:35 Tim Janus would have eaten more in 2004 if he hadn’t thrown them on the ground. Throwing hot dogs and buns on the ground wastes a lot of time.

Its real strange how Tim Janus went from a 13 to 15 hot dog eater in 2004 to 22 the following year and then got progressively better . Take that lemonade away from him and see how far he goes. Don’t tell me his totals are the result of hard work and constant practice

8:35, the only “case” that needs to be “closed” is the one containing the brewskis (or other alcohol-laden refreshments) from which you must be partaking prior to making such stupid comments!
I also agree with 2:29. Instead of several of you taking the easy way out and attacking others because of jealousy and resentment, you could transform your disappointment into positive actions; but, no, that’s too difficult for you.
If you think about it, that’s exactly why some of you are in the predicament you’re in, with little or no self-esteem. You’ve become so proficient in the blame game that you have learned to dwell there. You have neither the will nor the courage to change from within.

I can honestly say that before this site came along almost everyone in the IFOCE got along .Of course there was the minor trash talk amongst eaters, but nothing nasty. With the advent of this site , it gave anonymous haters the opportunity to trash people with no regard whatsoever. “This one is a sociopath” “this one is a cheater” “this one lives in a dump” ” “this one is steroid user” “this one doesnt brush their teeth” None of this low end crap talk ever existed back in the day until a forum such as eatfeats came on the scene. The site should focus on nothing but eating and not personal attacks on another human being

12:18 Thank you for your honesty Beautiful Brian who wants this site to disappear. Look in the mirror hard, it is not this site that breeds hate. If you are not Beautiful Brian go to his site and see where hate lives.

It’s no more than about three or four people with the ridiculous comments. They make it seem as if there are many more because they say similar destructive things multiple times, with only one intent—-to harm. Hence, that’s the “value” of not having an eatfeats account/of logging in anonymously.
OJ is not to blame; she does a great job keeping us updated on CE news from across the globe. I’m a nobody, but if I could make but one recommendation—-actually two—-it would be to separate the “News” Web part from the “Blog,” allowing only registered account holders to comment on the News pages. Then, in the blog, just let all the nonaccount holders go at it shoot each other in the ass with insults.

Nathans qualfiers in NJ were held in Edison and Newport in the early days along with Meadowlands. I am glad they brought back Meadowlands contest. AC is no great loss the worst tasting hot dogs ever

Correction the July 3 2006 qualifier was held at Keyspan Park in Coney and not at the actual Nathans restaurant on boardwalk. March 23 contest will be at the restaurant

Out of respect i think Krazy Kevin Charles Hardy Don Lerman and Ed Jarvis should make a guest appearance at the March 23 Nathans qualifier in Coney Island. Those names symbolized what Nathans is all about

11:40, I agree with you. That would be a wonderful gesture and would make underscore a point.
“You never know where you are until you know where you’ve been,” I heard an Army Lieutenant Colonel once say. And it’s true here also. Were it not for the legends, four of whom you mention, CE as we know it today would not exist.

Cleveland was probably dropped. It is still listed in this March 7 press release.
