direct quote from chesnuts myspace page
I really like the people I surround myself with… I like the friends I hang out with… I like the people I work with… I even like the competitors I eat against… But I do not like that little bastard takaru kobayashi. I am not ashamed of that. Some people would say that I am a bad sport for not liking him, but they are wrong. I have a lot of respect for kobayashi’s ability, but I cannot say anything good about his integrity. Last Year that tricky little man tried to pull a sneak attack on the 4th of July. He claimed that he suffered an injury and that he would not be able to compete (This happened after I broke his record by six hotdogs). On July 3rd he told me that he would be lucky to eat a dozen dogs. The next day, he ended up eating 63 hdb’s. There is more… In the closing seconds of the contest the tsunami barfed into his hands and continued to eat his vomit for nearly a minute after the time expired. Any eater with integrity would have stopped and accepted the DQ. Koby decided to steal second from Pat Bertoletti and he would have stolen first place if he could have. I have no desire to ever compete against him. So, as I watch the hot dog contest on tv, I will have two questions for the great takeru kobayashi. How did it feel to eat your barf in front of the world? Are you going to do it again this year?

Wow. I haven’t checked out his myspace page, but if that is his opinion then so be it. I don’t think it would be the first time that someone tried to mess with someone elses head before an event, and it didn’t work. Joey stepped up to the plate and hit a home run for sure last year.
As far as the DQ, well, if the powers that be don’t step in and do something, it just taints things for everyone. He should have taken the DQ even if it wasn’t given given to him, but that is a hard thing to do. Rules are rules, wether you are in second place or last place. Like someone else suggested, maybe that is why the time was changed to 10 minutes so it doesn’t happen again this year.

I don’t blame you Joey they don’t pay you enough to compete 10,000 dollars ain’t shit nowadays! You should get 100,000 dollars for a contest of this scale! Koby was just messing with you about only eating 12 he is injuryed but has the heart of a warrior he will never go down with out a fight. Remember no one on this earth can come close to you in hot dogs except Koby. Koby is no liar.

It wouldn’t make Chestnut a liar, etc. if he ends up compEATing.
It would me that either Nathan’s, Heinz, Espn?, or the Shea’s have ponied up an amount that is reasonable to Joey.

I respect Joey for making those comments . If anything i was sure he would lash out on me for some of the remarks i made about him in the past but one must look at the money aspect which is all that concerns him. My little digs on Joey doesnt make a dent in his wallet . Kobe does. I dont have to elaborate. If you watched my intro before the crazy legs BB corner show in 2006 i defended remarks made about Legs cheating in hot dogs. I still stand by my belief that it is the judge’s responsibility to do the right thing and not the eater. Hell if i could get away with being credited an extra plate of hot dogs and buns do you think im going to tell them “Oh excuse me i think you made a mistake i could not have eaten that much”? Only a fool would do something like that . If you found 100grand on the sidewalk would you return it ? More than likely you would get a nice fat $20 reward from it’s rightful owner. The only problem i have with Joey’s comment is that the first few sentences appears to sound like Kobe was the winner in that contest and Joey was the one that got screwed out of first place. However when you read on you realize he was defending Pat who got screwed out of place money. I wish other eaters would voice their true feelings about others in myspace or anywhere else . I know for a fact that names such as THe Natural , Sonya , Subich Shredder, myself and others have alot to get off their chest and if they really want to show their backbone they should do it. My new approach is not to slam the Shea’s and the IFOCE as ive done in the past. However there are some CE’s that rub me the wrong way with their little quirks which i find to be annoying and rude.. Let me say that i will be the first to bring this bullshit out alot sooner than you think. I believe that this is the true “vomit” that will make me feel a whole lot better when i release it !

I said , at least he has the balls to put a name next to his comments. You have posted on this site for nearly a year without telling us who the hell you really are. One would have to assume that with your one line sarcastic digs, you are either one of the two faced sneaks in the ifoce or possible a less than high profile aice member

Well, I guess each person has a right to his or her opinion. I never cared much for Joey, the person, from the beginning — I care even less now. Oh, but I do have tons of respect for his eating ability. (I hardly wonder which is more important in the grand scheme of things.)
At the end of that contest, I saw Koby embrace and congratulate Joey with a smile on his face. That’s what being a champion and sportsmanship is all about. Koby has never uttered a harsh word about any competitor, or boasted about his ability, in all 6 years that he has been the best on the world stage. Joey invests time in doing both.
Joey Chestnut is a pompass little jackass whom I have now lost virtually all respect for as a person. Koby is 10 times the champion that Joey Appleseed ever dreamed of being. Even thinking of Joey winning anything anymore totally sickens me.

I’m flattered… there’s a boy king #2.
Now, i think in saying “So, as I watch the hot dog contest on tv” I think he meant a recording of the live 2007 contest….. not that he’ll be watching this year

This anamosity could be good for the sport. So far Joey has not been particularly marketable. Perhaps with a bit of controversy this will change.

Seiken, are you kidding? You can’t take credit for food you didn’t eat. Nobody should.

Joey is B-O-R-I-N-G Look at the number of competitive eating contests from July 4th, 2007 (since he beat Koby for the first time ever), compared with the number of CE events the two or three years prior. Koby sells the sport. Joey sells Sominex. And with his continued and amplified knack of denigrating Koby, he’ll continue to sell less of the former and inspire more use of the latter.

“Only a fool would do something like that” I sure hope there are a lot more fools out there than you think. Like Spike Lee said “Do the right thing.”

I would definitely not take credit for what I didn’t eat. It is called integrity. What are you in this sport for, the money? The fame? You aren’t going to get it here.
