Boy has this guy been impressive. My gut is that he’s top 10 material, but I’d want to see his stomach capicity in a longer 10 or 12 minute contest before voting that way. I was alittle surprised when he was ranked #1 with only one or two wins, but he has since proven to deserve the ranking.

I’d love to see a youtube run of Competition HBD’s for 10 minutes. That would be pretty cool.

Can we all just agree that it’s a bad idea to be posting videos of speed eating on youtube and similar sites? No offense to Steakbellie’s wishes or anyone else’s. We may all think we know what we’re doing, that we can eat quickly safely, but we’re running the risk of encouraging others to try this stuff at home, and it seems like it’s only a matter of time until someone tries to copycat us and chokes on something and gets hurt.

I disagree anonymous. The IFOCE wont allow their members to show off their talents so the only way it can be done is through youtube. Whenever an eater asks IFOCE permission if he could go one on one with another eater for bragging rights, the idea is either ignored or disallowed . Putting your money where you mouth is on youtube will also silence the hecklers on this site that are constantly bashing or badmouthing other CE’s eating talents.

Hmm, well, the formats are different enough between the two leagues that it is hard to tell who would win against each other, but looking at the IFOCE rankings I would say Pete would be in there at number 6 right above Rich.

Anon1, those videos that Pete posted were for challenges done by a company, and there were no hotdog challenges, so there is no video. I would like to see how many he does, I would guess he could put away about 35 Nathans hdbs in 10 minutes if he trained for a month beforehand.

Anon2, I would agree with that, but where does it end? As far as people training for a contest, they are going to do what they are going to do. As far as the shmuck that gets drunk at the bar and sees a youtube video and thinks he can do better, what is stopping him from trying anything after Nathans reruns on tv? I like the videos, and the challenges that used to be on that one site, I can’t think of the name right now, maybe Kevin Ross can help me out there.

Steak, it does seem premature to get a ranking so quickly, but those two contests that he was in was a lot like when Koby first did Nathans. It was easy to tell no one in the rankings was going to touch him in any future events.

I think some of the eating challenges he’s done show that he has a pretty good capacity. But capacity over a half hour or an hour is different than capacity over 10-12 minutes. I know that I can eat far more at a buffet than what I can feel comfortable speed eating in a 10 minute contest. So it would be interesting to see how he did in an IFOCE contest, for sure. But of course, that’s something we’ll never see!

There are differnet eating styles here. I’d go with what ever Gentleman Joe says on this one. He seems to have some real good though behind what he has to say.

Pete – How much training do you do on the eating anyway?

Here is my challenge, since apparently HD’s decide everything.

There is no Nathans hot dogs up here…so get them to send me some, I will video tape myself eating nathans hot dogs and buns and do dunking (even though uhh,….not sure how that will go). I don’t need to be recognized among other competitors…whether I am better or not… I am sure I will compete one day with Joey, Pat etc and I’ll probably lose…and then maybe over time I’ll win.

But ill be happy to do some hot dogs on video with dunking and I promise you at least 30…at the very least.

  15. Steve Holland said

He would NOT eat 35 Nathan’s hot dogs. You guys throw around these numbers like they’re nothing, like anybody can just eat 30. Meanwhile, you guys stink when you try your hands at Nathan’s. So what do you know about it? You’re like the ski shop guy in Better Off Dead — Smitty — the guy in the wheelchair with the neckbrace, two broken legs, and a broken arm, who fixes Lane’s ski.

“My God, what happened to you? You’re all mangled. You get hit by a truck?” Lane asks.

“Oh, I was trying to ski the K-12. After the Olympics, everything looks so damned easy.” says Smitty.

Well, after any of the IFOCE’s shows, everything looks so damned easy. Pete would maybe crack top 10, but give it a rest with this top top 6 garbage, and give Lefevre and Sonya and Hall their due.

I won by eating them at the Nathan’s Hot-Dog-A-Thon (Jade brought Nathan’s banners, T-shirts, drinking cups etc.) on August 18, 2008 and at the Canadian Hot Dog Eating Championship at the Vancouver Playland in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. After 2003 Playland cancelled the Championship due to bad publicity with the winner Chris Eyre of Surrey and his alleged bad judgement (photos online at that time) in New York City on the morning of July 4, 2003. I wonder where the Canadian Mustard Belt and display case are now.

Try Wal-Mart super centers (if they have them in Ontario). The food sections carry Nathan’s. Also Sam’s Clubs carries them in the States. I don’t know if the Sam’s in Etobicoke has them or not. If all else fails, the next time you cross into the States, get some here. Any problems finding them, let me know.

Your list is quite confusing as to who the top eaters are within the combined leagues. How can you leave Shakey Pete Miernicki & the Hangman off that list of eaters? Perhaps you should re-evaluate and find where these two living legends belong. Furious Pete, Gentleman Joe, rubber gut……..they probably could not keep up with Shakey & Hangman in most food disciplines.

Fan of Philly guy , you mean stinky miernicki . You are too kind when referring to him as Shakey. Do you realize that you are giving furious pete more attention than he deserves? We should supply him with Nathans hot dogs? No offense Pete but get the fuckin hot dogs on your own. Geez! I agree one hundred percent with steve holland. Everyone that has never tried speed eating dogs thinks it’s a breeze. Let us see how he feels when he hits the wall at 16 or maybe sooner. If Pete can do the tre’ or slightly less on youtube , i will personally lobby to get Pete into the IFOCE or at least a shot at competing on the Nathans circuit. One thing i might add. I for one am glad to see him commenting on this site besides that horrible bodybuilding.com where personal vicious insults are always allowed. At least OJ has the sense to use his discretion at times when editing the comments from this site.

    Pete
Contact the IFOCE and see if they’ll let you in. Quitting AICE will be tough, but you have the talent to do MLE and be in the top tier of eaters. To use an analogy that’ll make the most sense to you, time to move from the IHL of CE to the NHL. On that note, Rob Ray used to really whoop Taj Domi’s ass……………..

Mike, stop using steroids. They’re clouding your judgment.

Here’s the thing: AICE is not the IFOCE’s minor league. Being a minor league would imply that IFOCE and AICE were working together, which everyone here knows could not be further from the truth. AICE and MLE are separate leagues, and as the AICE guys (Goose, Hickman, Carey Poehlman, etc.) found out last year, you can’t compete in a rival league and expect to join the MLE. (Carey, show Mike and Pete the email you got when you signed up for Nathan’s last year.)

  37. Carmen Fanzone said

    October 15, 2008 @ 10:11 am

Mike it’s not that simple. Pete would have to promise in writing that he would never compete in chapmans organization ever again. They would also have to review his application into the organization. But i believe if he called them he would have a better shot than email or applying online. Keep in mind that arnie would have a virtual shit fit if he jumped ship . The Shea’s would love nothing more than to grab arnie’s meal ticket. .On that note Pete does have a strong chance to get in. Pete think of it as a wonderful new family that will shower you with love and kisses !

And again everyone still things the ifoce has better eating talent throughout their entire ranks. Some of your people who were considered pretty good have showed at our tables and gotten NOTHING. They don’t even come close. They get beat by 20th ranked eaters in AICE. Quit ignoring hard facts and stfu. Calling it the minor leagues is just another way for the smack talkers in the ifoce to sling some more crap. The upper ifoce guys are class acts……the little shirt tail riders and wanna bes love talking smack. And Sciullo NEVER stops smack talking. Pretty good indicator of his true ranking and true self.

So how many laxatives did you take eat that burger at Denny’s? Anything to give you something to talk smack about. C’mon Brad…..how many trips to the bathroom? That’s how to gut it out. lol

Just one thing…I’ve done 19 3oz hot dogs…thats almost 5 dogs per lb in 8 minutes…and that was my first time trying to eat hot dogs…and yes that was without dunking….(Salen’s in Buffalo)…so please don’t start saying I’ll stop at 16 hotdogs when they are 8 for every pound.

  40. Give it a rest said

    October 15, 2008 @ 11:17 am

If Hickman, Goose, and Poehlman were turned away for being AICE guys, then by the exact same logic, Pete must be turned away also. They are AICE eaters. They have established themselves as AICE eaters. They have repeatedly eaten in AICE events. It’s not like Pete signed up for one AICE event, ate in it, and then realized he wanted to eat with the MLE. He kept eating AICE. You can’t just ride it until you’re ready to get off, time things perfectly so that you’ve had your fun and won your money, and then jump ship when it suits you.

Maybe Pete can eat 30. So what. That’s a good number. But Tim Brown eats 30, Hall Hunt eats 30, Van Dam eats 30, and a lot of other guys eat way more than 30. Pete’s place is AICE. Stick to that.

That’s all fine and dandy Pete , but to avoid any negative speculation put 20 or 25 Nathans natural casing dogs and buns in front of you and set the timer for 10 min on youtube. If you want to try it without dunking , then hey more power to you bro. You will silence all the critics if you succeed . If not ? well thats another story. Would anyone like to take up a collection for Pete and get him the real Nathans dogs since they dont have them in Canada? . I got a key food supermarket near my home that has them on sale $2.99 for a a package of six natural casing dogs that normally sell for $5.79 Maybe i can send them to you.

are these the dogs with the “nitrates removed” like they eat in the contest. will they be eaten on buns that desolve as soon as they touch water? how about just blend up 50 dogs and buns and chug em down pete. make sure you leave plenty of bread residue in the containers you drink from just to ensure you are on a level playing field with the rest of the ifoce. make sure you barf em up when you get done so you dont have all that sodium in your system. we would all hate to see a strapping young man like yourself have health problems from some stupid hot dogs.

Here is my 2 cents worth.
Pete, it sounds like you’re having a good time doing what you’re doing, so do what makes you happy. Sign up for a Nathan’s contest if you want. If they wont let you eat without a lot of strings attached, then you tried and theres not much more to do. They are the ones that are scared of what YOU can do. They can’t take the chance that you’ll beat some of thier top people. Just like they’ve done with guys like Ian and others in the past.

Just keep doing your thing man!!!

I’m crying at your harsh words. You must be bitter to think that anyone better than you must be on steroids. Maybe I just didn’t spend all my time playing Nintendo in my parents’ basement.

But seriously Pete, Sahlen’s hot dogs are totally different than Nathan’s. Sahlens have a tough texture, but they do not cause the extreme “meat sweats” reaction that Nathan’s do. I have no way to compare 19 picnic rules Sahlens to Nathans in a dunking contest, but you’d probably do well (can’t see any reason you wouldn’t). Only one way to find out…………

  46. Anonymous said

    October 15, 2008 @ 10:37 pm

and why wouldn’t they cause meat sweats? have you eaten them in a contest? you also have to realize that the buns were enormous too. he probably ate the equivalent of 30 to 35 nathan’s picnic style in 10 minutes. pretty damn impressive.

I haven’t eaten Sahlen’s in competition, but have eaten a whole lot of them over the years. There is no direct comparison is all I said. I didn’t question Pete’s ability, so pull your wadded up panties from your ass crack and reread what I posted. I said Pete would do well. 30-35 might be achievable, but as I said, only one way to find out…….

  48. Anonymous said

you said they don’t cause meat sweats….and no you can’t compare the two. Sahlen’s are more difficult to eat because of the texture and he did the equivalent of 30 – 35 PICNIC style in 10. That is all I said..

Kobayahi cannot be considered a North American eater, so not sure why his name is being listed by everyone

When I tried to enter Nathan’s, the answer I was given made it seem as if anyone who had done any competitive eating outside the IFOCE was automatically and forever banned with no room for discussion. Right now it seems like a great idea, the perfect filter system. Anything outside of the IFOCE is minor leagues and could never attract anyone better than top 20 or so in the country

The only problem, though, is eventually someone (or several someones) will come around capable of the top 10, perhaps even top five or even number one. And maybe they would have done some sort of small competitive eating event before finding the IFOCE

Pete is far better than anyone not in the IFOCE and right now might be the only one capable of being just inside the top 20, with more practice and competition he could move up and be close to the top 10

tom g whacha smokin? what is your justification of not putting him in the top 10? the boy kills food, far more than any other aice eater. he has the capacity, speed and tenacity it takes to be at the very least in the top 5 on anyones list. he has yet to come close to reaching capacity in any contest. he has more capacity than anyone in aice. it would be interesting though to see who has more capacity, he or kuhns. we thought you were the next chestnut (and you may very well still be) but this kid is something very special. he doesnt have an overblown ego and is very intelligent. ce needs more like him. if he was in the ifoce he would be being paraded around like a war hero. please justify your opinion of him only being in the top 20.
