Rockvale Outlets has put out a press release about the 2006 Shoo Fly Pie contest that will take place on June 24. The contest has a website which has a gallery of the 2005 contest. Tim Janus is expected to defend his 2005 title. There will be an amateur contest before the IFOCE event which will award a $250 gift certificate to the winner. The website has shoo fly pie recipes if entrants want to make some practice pies.

I saw Mike Castelleno at the Eats of Strength tapings and he was trying to convince me to enter this contest. I came in third last year but this is no “cakewalk” by any means. This year something wrong with the picture. 1st place $2600? 2nd place $500? 3rd $100 . That is a huge prize gap between the first and second place winners . Why couldnt they at least offer the same amt for 3rd place last year so i could at least cover my carfare tolls gas etc.Instead i get a road map of PA. Gas was still 2bucks a gallon in June 2005. Now forget about it. I take my hat off to the money winners of this contest. the pies are almost 3lbs each and the gooey rich molasses after 5 minutes will make you sick but then again certain people have a tolerance for it.
