Those sure looked like some big oysters. Anyway, KR, had they not been so big, I’m sure several eaters would have done 30 dozen, and one might have done 40. So don’t be too hard on yourself about your pre-contest prediction.
I’ve probably made more wrong contest predictions than most, as I stick my neck out more than most. I get a kick out of such things. It makes things fun!
Yeah, it is fun to guess, but I’m usually not that off. They were indeed significantly bigger than last time, but not like twice as big or anything. I think the real problem was they just seemed more gross for whatever reason and were much harder not to gag on. I ate the first 7 dozen pretty fast, but then hit a wall. I think after that for every one I swallowed, three more came up in my mouth, which I then had to re-swallow. Delicious! I actually like raw oysters a good deal (when they’re freshly shucked and cold), so I’m a little afraid I’ll get turned off from them in general if I keep doing this contest. BTW, not trying to get down on Acme. . .the oysters in their restaurant are delicious. It’s just that when they have to shuck a million of them pre-contest and they’re sitting there on top of each other, they get warm and full of shell particles. Probably no way to avoid that when working on such a large scale.
