SF Chronicle: Did Kobayashi regurgitate at 10 minute mark?
I wondered what Joey Chestnut pointing to Kobayashi around the 10 minute mark signified, and this article in the San Francisco Chronicle says that Joey Chestnut was indicating that he believed that Kobayashi might have regurgitated at that time. Joey’s brother Patrick says that a quarter hot dog was found in Kobayashi’s cup. The article says that three additional eating contests will be televised on ESPN, which compensates for the loss of the US Open of Competitive Eating.

Then you don’t understand the sport Bubba. Koby won fair and square. It is sad that Joey had to point fingers like that. Just be thankful that Joey didn’t heave on National Television.

I was DQ’d against kevin in pickles and far less came out of my nose. Hardy had a tough job yesterday. Millions of people are watching and for Hardy to DQ Kobe he has to really throw up full force and he didnt . So i think it was a good call that Kobe wasnt D’Qd besides its a tainted victory if you win like that

Maybe. But there’s no way to prove that it was from the stomach (aka “vomit”) or just the natural result of shoving 50 hot dogs and water soaked buns into your body in 12 minutes. Putting himself through something like that, I wouldn’t fault him if a piece of hot dog wriggled its way out of his ear!

“The effluvia never touched the table,” Kuntzman said, a distinction he claimed was part of the International Federation of Competitive Eating’s official rules.
The judge saw it happen. Joey could of pushed harder and something like that could of happened but he didn’t, because he wants to win in the clear. If chunks clear your mouth you should be out.

I love how you cowardly fat asses with 5 aliases apiece can call Joey a loser when the guy just ate 52 friggin hotdogs. If you’re gonna be that critical, be a man and sign-in so we know exactly who the pathetic jealous hater is.

In my opinion, Gersh is ‘bought & paid’ for by the Shea’s . That said, it was no where near as bad as in 2002. I didn’t see any reversal. Maybe that was because espn wanted to show the chew cam instead of the 2 horse contest. I saw something under a nostril, but I assumed it was snot.
Joey, reacted like he saw him reverse.
I don’t know if his brother is a loose canon or its under Joey’s influence, but expect the Shea’s to try to put a stop to Paul’s & Patrick & any other family members comments.
Watching Joey eat is like watching gay porn, oral rape @ gun point… not that I know anything about that… and “not that there’s anything wrong w/that”.
Joey you now have the power. Probably more than Kobe. Use it unlike anyone who’s had it before has! Booker & Jarvis’ time passed, now Sonya’s time has passed. I understand that Kobe used some power, but not much.
Good luck, i’m sure you’ll get him atleast once.

Anybody bad mouthing Joey sucks. Joey is the greatest eater in America. What do you call it when Hotdogs come shooting out of your nose? Joey will lay that fool to waste next year. To bad that Koby received a call in his favor. That was the most outstanding performance I have ever seen and Joey deserves all the credit and acclaim in the world. Luther and Pool boy you two are a couple of douche bags get a life!!
Hell to me the biggest travesty was that eater X didn’t get his due during the contest at the very end his name was moved up.
Good job to everyone there.

I’ve read the SF article several times and can’t figure out if all the posts here have been written by the illiterate, or just straight up jealous haters.
Nowhere in the article is there a comment from Joey saying Kobayashi had a reversal of fortune. The article accurately describes, how in mid-contest, Chestnut pointed towards Kobayashi. It appeared that Chestnut genuinely thought a reversal was in progress. The decision was made by Gersch, and Chestnut never mentioned it again.
In fact his only explanation for the 2nd place finish was the following:
“Still, Chestnut refused to blame the officiating decision. ‘I feel like I could have prepared better,’ he said afterward, still red-faced and drenched in sweat. ‘I could have pushed myself harder.'”
The only comment about Kobayashi’s possible reversal was from Chestnut’s brother “Patrick”.
In fact, I’m still wondering why this thread is titled “SF Chronicle: Joey believes Kobayashi regurgitated.”
That is never even said in the article.
Good luck Joe, and keep up the hard work.

Joey is the greatest Hot Dog eater in America, by far. Sad it wasn’t enough to win.You MIGHT be able to say he’s THE greatest eater in America by the end of the year. But he has lots of people who will be challenging him in scores of other foods. Why don’t we just see what the day brings.
I did not realize that eater X ate 34 Dogs! Why in the hell doesn’t the IFOCE recognize it? Because they were too busy watching Koby and Joey and giving X (or any other eater) credit wasn’t a priority that day. That’s where their loyalties lie. As soon as Joey’s talent starts taking a dive they will treat him like a repressed memory.

Joey and Kobe performed like champs. The closest we’ve ever seen in the nathans comp. Credit also goes to X, Chip, and Bertolletti! The Credit is in the numbers….no need to kiss ass. IFOCE did a great job, and has a wonderful relationship with its athletes. Names have never been forgot, or records check the site.

I was at the contest and saw it. He started spitting water and he spit out food into his cup. Then ate that food quickly. I believe there’s a video at flicker or something like that. You joey haters are a-holes, just because it wasn’t on tv doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

For what it’s worth, I took a couple of screen shots from a video posted on YouTube here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5FnYuouLHM&search=coney%20island%20hot%20dog
It’s hard to see, but it all happens between 1:40 1:50 in the video. You can see a little piece of something come out of his mouth in the video. I couldn’t get a screen grab of that. I did get a screen grab of Kobayashi reaching his hand into his cup. Check that out here:

I’m not sure what this proves, if anything, I just wanted to post it to show some of the reactions around Kobayashi.

G Joe/Mr. Wright –
Tim and I walked over to see if you or anyone was still around from the contest to say hi. There was no one outside where the contest was until Chowhound walked up and talked to Tim for a minute (I have never met Chowhound) as Dave Baer was waiting for our ride. Our ride showed up right then and Dave came over and shook Chowhound’s hand before we all took off. Dude, we came by to say what’s up and all you want to do is gossip.

As mentioned on my blogsite, which had become a little static due to computer problems, I in one of my “practices” for Nathan’s hot dog competition, downed 22 hot dogs in 8 minutes. That is with two full one-minute breaks, so my eating time was really only 6 minutes
I didn’t try more than that, though i know I have the capacity. That year I knew there was no need to eat more than probably 15, much less 22+ , so I felt comfortable stopping there. Unfortunately, however I didn’t end up going.
My (long drug out) point is that if Joey can eat 52 hot dogs and buns, the he should be given credit for it and not unjustly ctritisized.
Chances are, many people which post in an attempt to attack IFOCE eaters, and other competitive eaters alike, haven’t ever eaten more than their tiny recommended daily allowences. Naturally anybody in that boat would have no concept of what that is like to really “eat”. If I want cereal I eat the whole box and a gallon of milk, if I want a lighter meal I only have half a gallon with half the box. I eat very quickly too. I don’t think that it is quick at all, but compared to most, I do. That is just how I eat, or like 12-15 hot dogs, or a gallon+ ice cream. Every time I eat buffet I eat 6-11 pounds of food (plus about 5-8 pounds drinks), although I spend a lengthy 30 minutes actually eating (and drinking) that.
What Joey can do, as well as Kobayashi, Sonya, Rich, Pat, Eater-x, Bob, Cookie, Eric Booker, Ron, and the like are makes them athletes.
Try what any of them do, then comment: (for any non competitive eater with a negative post).

Mr Blackwell there are two things wrong with your comment. 1. without a video on your site of the boastful claim of 22 in 8 minutes , noone is going to believe you 2. You didnt attempt to qualfiy which makes your comments more unbelieveable. . Not to mention that your site is having tech problems. So basically all we have to go by is your bullshit on paper . A whole box of cereal and a gallon of milk? 12-15 hot dogs and a gallon of ice cream? Very healthy eating. You must weigh over 400lbs. With that kind of diet you will be 6ft under before you know it unless you are some snotnose kid under the age of 25 that can get away with that kind of eating because you have age on your side. But that might not even help with the excessive amts of food you put in your system. Are you sure your name is not Alex from mexico ? Someone with that name posted similar boastful comments of bullshit some months ago and got his feelings hurt by people that knew he was full of shit . Never heard from him again
