Silly America (Val Bromann) reports that Sonya Thomas defeated Pat Bertolett in a one minute eat off to take today’s La Costena jalapeno eating contest in Chicago.

Pat will be feeling the pain of this loss in more ways than one!! This brings new meaning to the “agony of defeat”. Hall and Gravy should have some kind of tie-breaking contest involving least trips to el bano!

Good job by Pat and Sonya. Both are incredible eaters.
One question though. Are the jalapenos whole peppers or is the contest by weight and a formula is used to determine the number eaten?

Mike,
The Peppers are whole and poured out of pickled cans. Not only do you get the whole spicy pepper but a dose of salt and vinegar with every bite. Pickle Champ Beautiful Brian can give you a review of what a load of vinegar will do to your system!
