You know, these days I’m actually more interested in seeing contests (to include this one) with “new blood,” especially the enthusiastic up-and-coming eaters with potential, like Syko, K-Ross, US Male, Brad Sciullo and others.

I get tired of seeing the same old eaters eating the same old food, whereby you’re going to get the same old outcome. I’d be (almost) as entertained listening to old women gossip.

I can and do understand having the defending champion defend his or her title, but there should also be an ample amount of contests out there for eaters who aren’t in the top half dozen can go and have a chance to sometimes win or finish in the top three. That way they can improve and have a better chance of placing in major events against the top five or six eaters. Again, this would really promote morale and camaraderie.

Yes, this may well be idealistic and perhaps unachievable. But knowing what an ideal is certainly helps provide focus and a sense of direction.

SyKo, I’m not sure, but judging by the pics I saw in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005, I believe there are normally about 12 – 14 entrants. But there may be more this year, since they are trying to revive the event.

You have to hope Crazy Legs is there and hopefully Booker will be there too. That’s where it all started for Crazy Legs, back in 2002 I think. LA Acme Oysters used to be considered one of the four majors in the IFOCE. I hope it can regain its status again, especially since seafood has virtually no representation on the circuit right now.

If that were the case now, Sonya and Crazy Legs would both be ranked higher than they currently are.

I registered about a millisecond after the link came up, so I’m assuming I’m all set. The way the frequent flyer miles turned out, I have to come into N’awlins a few days before the contest. Which is cool with me anyway because I’ve never been there and that’ll give me some time to soak up the place. I’m coming in on the 9th at night, so basically I’ll be free all day Thursday and Friday before the event. Anyone registered who is going to be in town early like me, please let me know so we can meet up! Or if anyone wants to go in for a rental car or knows a good deal on a motel/hotel, etc. . .I would rather stay in the same general area as the other eaters or at the same hotel and I have no idea about the layout of New Orleans. The only thing I’ve heard of is The French Quarter. So yep, whomever is going, give me a holler! I’m going to do a ton of internet research to find out some cool things to do while I’m there and get more informed about the place, but if anyone knows some stuff whose been there before, I’m all ears.

Pat should eat about 85 dozen.

It looks like a fun contest. Juliet would push Pat if she goes. She can probably do anywhere between 40 and 50 dozen blindfolded.

I don’t think it’s humanly possible to consume more than 50 – 55 dozen in 10 minutes. I think Pat will have to have one of his best outings ever to eat 45-50 dozen.

Romeo, Juliet is certainly an outstanding eater. But let’s put things in perspective. Crazy Legs set the record (in 2002) with about 16 dozen, and he’s an excellent oyster eater. Bulot broke that in 2003 with 18 dozen. Then in 2004 Sonya doubled his total with 36 dozen, an amount people considered virtually impossible to eat, which was considered the equivalent of Koby eating 50 HDBs, doubling the previous record of 25 HDB. Yet, to people’s further disbelief, Sonya comes back the following year and eats 46 dozen!

Badlands accomplished his goal and ate the Quarter in the Quarter (25 dozen in the French Quarter) the same year Sonya ate the 46 dozen. Badland’s performance was nothing less than unbelievable.

Based on all that history, it is my opinion that anytime anyone eats more than 15 dozen, well, that’s excellent; over 20 dozen is outstanding; twenty-five dozen or more is beyond belief. And to eat over 40 dozen is totally beyond (my) imagination, for anyone of any size, but most especially for a lady who tips the scales at about a hundred pounds and can likely fit into a size 2 dress with room to spare.
