AICE hot dog contest to be held at NYC Food Festival
AICE News reports that it will sanction the 30 inch hot dog eating contest to be held during the June 21 session of the New York Food Film Festival. “Zen and the Art of Competitive Eating”, a documentary starring Crazy Legs Conti, will be screened that evening and Conti will be present to answer questions about the film. Joe Menchetti is expected to defend his title.
AICE News also reports that “Swallow Your Pride” will be screened, but the Wing Bowl 13 documentary does not appear on the festival schedule.
update The schedule has been updated and “Zen” and Conti’s Q&A have been removed. “Swallow Your Pride” will most likely take its place

My guess would be, maybe they wanted a documentary that hadn’t been out & widely circulated on international cable (A&E) w/a star who contractually can’t compete in the hot dog eating contest they had already set up, & have had for 2 other years.
I am not in anyway knocking The Zen of CE… In fact I thought it was entertaining. How many times can you watch anything & still be entertained?! Same thing w/ Hamburger America. I think I’ve seen that about a half dozen times. Any time there’s nothing on, I jokingly suggest to my wife “you know we can always pop in Hamburger America”. Thats always good for a groan.
I have not seen “Swallow Your Pride” & would very much like to.
I have not decided as of yet whether I will defend this title. I’m a little disappointed w/what the prize may be. Inspite of that, if Conti or any other “fed” top 10 eater is allowed to compete, i’ll be there w/bells on & offer to donate any potential winnings from the event.
