Amateur P’Zone contest vs. Kobayashi
A press release announces a P’Zone eating contest against Takeru Kobayashi:
Coinciding with the return of P’Zone pizza, Pizza Hut will launch a national competition “Dare You to Still Be Hungry” featuring Takeru “The Tsunami” Kobayashi, world leader in competitive eating. Through the contest, consumers can enter for a chance to win a trip to New York to take on legendary eating champion, Kobayashi, in an event sanctioned by Major League Eating (MLE).
To enter, P’Zone pizza fans should visit pizzahut.com, upload a photo of themselves with their favorite P’Zone and write a brief description stating why they are up to the challenge of competing against Kobayashi. The contest deadline for submitting photos is July 1. The face-off with Kobayashi will take place in early July.
Entries are being accepted at http://www.pizzahut.com/vpofpizza/ The rules announce that one amateur with no competitive eating experience will be selected to compete against Kobayashi. The selected eater will receive $5,000 and a trip to New York City.

In “early July”…another indication that he will indeed be in the U.S. during the 4th of July. I guess. Even though he already sort of confirmed that he’ll be on Coney for the contest.

What is exciting about an amateur with no experience trying to beat Kobe one on one? Makes no sense to me. They should have like several people competing against him at once or something, like with the lobster rolls, so at least the amateurs have some sort of chance.

That’s fun that they’re doing this and the Indian giant thing, though it’s too bad for the eater who loves the sport and may have supported Nathan’s through several qualifiers but missed the big table.

There is no additional reward offered for beating Kobayashi in the contest, so it really isn’t a competition, just an opportunity for the winner of the contest to eat against Kobayashi.
I wish Pizza Hut would just sponsor a mini-circuit and have a championship; spread the wealth and the publicity.

maybe they know that the eater going against kobayashi has no chance but yeah they could have said they’d put up one million if the eater beats kobayashi that would be great press

Okay, I see now that there is no additional reward if they win, so it’s just for the fun of meeting Kobayashi basically. That’s alright I guess.

The ifoce/mle claims Kobe as one of its own, right?! If thats the case, the ifoce/mle is specifically working AGAINST, ALL of its other eaters, if no one who’s ever been in a contest before can enter/compEAT.
Assuming that any of there contracts are enforceable, the fact that they are working against you, instead of for you, should make it null, or provide everyone with a suit against them.
Am I wrong here?! Or am I just an *sshole. Yeah, yeah, I now. Either way, i’m an *sshole.

Kobayashi has just gotten arthritis of the jaw and can barely eat 1 hot dog so whoever wins this pizza hut contest has a good chance of defeating him

Joe, are you talking about the contest itself not being open to IFOCE eaters? I think it is just one of those clauses that P’Hut uses, like no employees, or employee families eligible. *sshole 🙂

This might be hard to believe but my wife won this contest and we leave for New York on Monday. We sent in a picture of her on a whim after ordering a P’Zone and they chose her as the grand prize winner. It’s pretty crazy but we are super excited. PushesMyButtons, we were told the event takes place at 31 West 19th Street.

I think it has already happened. Joey ate something like 4.5 Pizza Hut P’Zones in 6 minutes. Maybe I am just making this up. I forget.

I know you must be awfully disappointed emk; Koby has to rest his jaw, especially after eating at Coney when he should have not even tried. But he sacrificed his health because of the warrior he is, just so he wouldn’t be accused of being a cop out.
Anyway, take heart in the fact that Koby was there. If you want to see him at his best, find a way to make it to Krystals this year in October. You’ll be treated to quite an exhibition, I can promise you. He will put on a clinic for our pal Joey. 🙂
