The second Pepe's soft taco eating contest will take place in Balmoral Park (south Chicago area) at 7:30 pm Saturday. The contest will apparently award $500 to the winner. Bacci Pizza will also hold a Chicago-area contest (total purse $2250) on Saturday.

What professionals? Does that eliminate only Joey .Chipwood and Koby? Everyone else has a full time job and eats competitively just as a hobby or side interest.

If you travel hundreds of miles or thousands of miles strictly for an eating contest, uhh, i think that might consider you a profesional. What do you think?

While it looks like a big purse for Bacci’s, if you look at the way the whole thing is set up, they will get publicity without involving any of the eating organizations. It’s their anniversary, they want to throw a kind of party. They will still sell pizza just with the qualifiers. And by barring professionals, it gives a chance for people who live in the Chicago area, fans of competitive eating, people who have wanted to try it out, to compete.

And, as usually happens with these contests or challenges, if any eaters who have indeed competed before, even if they are not officially affiliated with any groups at present, are winners, one way or the other people will find out. It is not this website which “outs” people.

So everyone, follow the rules of your organization or make arrangements with it to do challenges with permission. No one should be surprised that people are paying attention. That is why these places do challenges and contests. There is nothing in it for them to keep secrets for eaters who are not sensible about these things. If you don’t like the way your organization restricts you, do a Koby. Or organize yourselves. Be smart, be aware or beware.
