f not for Pat and Joey competitive eating wouldn’t really exist. Those two are the only ones with substantial talent. Everybody else is just eating for a meal, taking up space at the table. I think it would be a good gesture for other eaters to pay annual dues that go into a fund as a bonus to those two to be paid at year end.

Bertoletti deserves better than to eat with no names.

Bertolletti couldn’t beat Sonya in wings last year (he came in third). This year he traveled all the way to Buffalo and ran away rather than having the guts to face her and embarrass himself again in the wing contest. Now he wants us to believe he has any credibility when it comes to wings by taking on Gravy and Legs? Please excuse irony but what a chicken.

I can’t blame Pat for that (not going to Buffalo in 2010), especially with Joey there too. Overall Pat excels against Sonya.
Sonya remains, however, one of the top two or three eaters in the world in “finger foods” that require hand speed, like wings, clams, oysters, lobster, and crawfish, though she’s probably concerned about US Male in the latter. 🙂
She has also come up to Pat’s level in jalapenos. No, she has s-u-r-g-e-d to that level. As a team she and Pat could probably top any three eaters in jalapenos. They’re both that dominant.
Sonya is the only recognized competitive eater in the world, past or present, who has never lost to anyone of the same gender.

Does there exist any non spicy wing competitions (excluding the wing bowl)?

Go Legs! I guess the loose meat sandwiches were too difficult for your gloving but the chicken wings should be no problem at all!

It looks like Competitive eating is de-evolving back to the freak/side show it used to be back in the day, with all these exhibitions. Jimmy johns, Mars Bars, Joey vs. 4 ice cream eaters, Humans vs. Elephants… IFOCE’s sponsors are gearing more towards requesting only the best eaters do an exhibition rather then a contest for all to sign up for.
OJ, is there a way to see how many sponsored events (IFOCE events for all eaters) that were put on in 2010 vs. 2009 and 2008? Seems like it’s dropped by at least a good 30% maybe 40% this year.

Yes. You could do your own research. All of the information you seek is online.

Back to olden times is asking an expert for the answer. Sounds right to me.

By my count, there were 58 contests this year that anybody could sign up for, eliminating the exhibitions and the two Nathan’s qualifiers held on military bases:

Take one off in 2010 for the Nathan’s final, so 57.
In 2009, there were 58 contests open to everyone, but that included 8 Krystal qualifiers:
