Major disappointment for male eaters after they find out bertoletti will be in this qualifier. They don’t stand a chance

Men –
Kevin “LA Beast” might be the best of the newcomers with Juan R and Owens slightly behind. I don’t see any of them breaking 25 though or making the final table unless they happen to get lucky at a qualifier where no real threat shows up.
Kevin Beast 22-24HDBs
Juan R & Owens 20-22HDB’s
Women
Boxberger 16-18 HDB’s
Jessica 9-11 HDB’s
Bowers 5-7 HDB’s
This years Nathan’s rookies are a lot less impressive then the previous last 2 years. Last year brought us Stonie, A-train and Stephanie… 2010 gave us Monson (ashame he left sop soon) and Adrian

I’ll take the Monster over the Beast with a slight edge. Marcos did 22 1/2 Hebrew Nationals in 10 minutes last year . A very similar hotdog to Nathans. Possibly a little tougher. With another year under his belt , and the competitive athlete he is, I say he breaks 25 . I see the LA beast maxing out at 22 . Good luck to them both .

Tiger wings, remeber, Hebrews are about 4/5th’s the size of a nathans and not cased. Very much easier i would assume even though ive never tried either in competition..

Well Motiff , I have done both . The Hebrews were harder for me to eat and they were not any smaller than Nathans. Don’t forget they have many sizes also. They were tough to say the least.

I didn’t mean to say your opinion was wrong, I was just pointing to the face that standard hebrews = 47-49g per dog and Nathans = 57g per dog.
I would image though with different recipes taste/texutre could make a big difference.
Sorry if it seemed I was discrediting your opinion.

Jessica, Humble Pie probably used a moniker for what he’ll be eating after the qualifiers this year.
I’m looking for you to down around 16 in your first qualifying attempt; I think you may be able to do 18+ by the time July 4 rolls around.
Good luck! I’m one of your real fans! 🙂

9-11 wasn’t meant to be an insult. 11 will get you into Nathan’s considering only what 6 girls passed the double digit mark last year (7 if you count Grace Lee).
Don’t take it as an insult, use it as motivation to train harder, I was just taking an educated guess based on her recent challenges. I’m rootin for you Jess!
RI,
Don’t start calling people out as far as using a Moniker to hide their identity. Talk about the Hot Dog calling the ketchup, red!

Well I love Edible but she’s not in the league of Sonya and Juliet either. We can eat the same amount of hot dogs, I believe she did 13 at Nathans last year…just saying. Obviously I’m not saying I’m amazing but I can eat more than 9

Well considering I’ve never done anything speed wise you cant really take challenges into consideration when estimating hot dog amounts. 9 hot dogs really isnt much but you are correct in assuming that speed is my issue. However when I did challenge challenges I obviously didnt push for speed I just do it to finish.

I don’t doubt you can eat more then 9-11 HDB’s… but can you do it in ten minutes or less, slamming your body with food in ten minutes is a lot different then taking your time to finish. There’s plenty of elements that come into play… With that said, I am rooting for you, and suggest you practice some speed eating sessions just to be prepared.
btw, eating 3 HDB’s in 2 minutes isn’t a good gauge of where you’ll be at after ten minutes, you need to go a full ten minutes to know where you’re at.

Jess, when Sonya entered she also never thought she could keep up with the top eaters until she stepped up to the table. She just tried it for the experience of eating against the best, meeting cool people, traveling, and having fun. Turned out she was able to eat against the top guys after refining her skills. I love Sonya and Juliet, but eventually, someday they’re going to be hanging up their bibbs. You’re young. Never say never, if you work on it anything is possible. But, always remember to keep up the good attitude, have fun and enjoy the ride.

“btw, eating 3 HDB’s in 2 minutes isn’t a good gauge of where you’ll be at after ten minutes, you need to go a full ten minutes to know where you’re at.”
If you do your math right you can figure out a 10 minute HDBs # and get within a few dogs with a few 2 and 3 minute test runs.

I agree with Humble Pie (Guess I’m in the minority here), you can’t know where you’re at until you’ve done a full ten minute run… Generally speaking things slow way down around the 6-7 minute mark, some more then others, I know everybody is differnet and there are few who can keep a solid pace like Kobi and Janus, but for most that’s not the case. Dax, maybe your like Kobi and Janus I don’t know. but if your speaking in normal terms then I would have to disagree with you.
No math involved really, I can consistantly do 11-12HDB’s in 3 minutes and my best performance was 26.5… if you averaged all my perfomances together I’m a touch over 23 HDB’s in 10 minutes…
I’ve actually spoken with Jessica about this a few times and I’ve also told her she needs to take a few full ten min test runs, not only to gauge were she is but to also prep her body for a ten minute war against those Hot Dogs.

I can do 10 in 10 minutes. That should be enough to win in Canada right?
DaxtheGinger said (Registered April 23, 2011)

That’s the math, you do 50% of your dogs in the first 2:30 to 4:00 of a 10 minute contest. So if you do 10-12 dogs in 3 minutes your gonna finish with 18-22. If you do 3 in 2 minutes your gonna finish around 8-10. And yes if your a god and don’t fatigue over 10 minutes. I am doing 11-14 in 3 minutes and 18-20 in 10.

I know from my past experiences, I do 10-11 HDBs in 1st 5 mins and then slow waaaaaay down to a 16/17 total for 10 mins. Just can’t seem to keep the pace for the 2nd half 🙁 Jess – Edible did 15 at Coney last year….the 13 was at her qualifier. I see her easily passing the 20 mark this time around based upon the eater she’s become (becoming) 🙂

At the Derby Deli last year, I hit 17 in the 10 minutes. I’ve never done any serious practice runs to know where I’d be in the first 3 minutes, but from memory it seemed like I wasn’t past 7-8. It seems to NEAR the ballpark that Dax was describing, just not where I want to be.

Jessica you will no doubt get to Coney because the woman league is a joke. It’s relatively so easy to qualify its not even worth discussing . The question is how will you adjust when you register for other events and finish way behind the competition?. Will you slam the food down in disgust which I’ve seen you do in the past

I’ve been working on my technique figuring out which is the best, so I’m doing a lot of 3 minute run to figure out which is gonna be best to do a 10 minute run. I switched a few things in my technique and preparation and brought my 10 minute HDBS # up by 6 the last run and I have 6 weeks till my qualifier to fine tune my skills, I hope to ne in the mid 20s and hope to catch Eric the Red slipping after ribs the day before and his bithday the day before that.

I haven’t started practicing yet but I will the 1st week of May when me & Dave competed in the contest in Philly I wasn’t full after 22.5 hot dogs just a little disgusted. Hot Dogs are not on my list of favorite things to eat. My problem was getting it down within 10 minutes. But I’ve done my fair share of contest since then. That was like my 4th or 5th contest last year. I’ve improved by leaps & bounds since then. When I do the AC qualifier I guarantee at least 30
