Wow, OJ, this site continues to have followers from all parts of the world. That’s a testimony to your tireless dedication to and outstanding professionalism in reporting on competitive eating. You deserve a perpetual pat on the back! Keep up the great work!

(If there existed awards for outstanding coverage of CE, I’d be most happy to write a nomination for you!) 🙂

Great, another APE, AICE, trying to make money off the interest in competitive eating generated by Major League Eating over the last two decades. As more and more of these rinky dink organizations are formed, with less and less talented eaters doing poorly run and badly promoted contests the competitive eating waters as a whole become more and more and diluted. Such as in APE’s case with not very talented individuals trying to claim half baked records and the best eaters in the world evententually leading to any potential future competitive eating fans painting all of competitive eating with skepticism. Mark my word, a year, a month, a week from now the “Big Eaters Club” will too be making bogus claims of having the best eaters in the world. Like any glut on the market and growing loss of credibility, it’s inevitable that these unprofessional organizations will kill each other off. Then the same jokers who started APE, AICE, and now the “Big Eaters Club” will be looking for another scheme to make money off the hard work and truly talented individuals who came before them.

I don’t know what the sport of competitive eating would do without people like OJ. Seriously, he (she?) has redefined what it means to be a competitive eating “reporter.”

Not trying to make any money, creating a social club,

Glut – You have serious issues. Well written “hidden agenda” and perfect insight into your grandiose delusions. Good luck with life.

Max, “not trying to make money”? You even answered why you created your organzation on your front page? “Why do we do this you might ask? Well, why does a runner compete in an ultra marathon? Why does a guy streak through a stadium full of people? Why do people buy weekly Powerball tickets? The answer is simple…for fun, fame, or FORTUNE.” In fact there’s a place to click on to make money called “fortune.” Nothing delusional, I just read what you wrote and saw it no different than what AICE or APE is trying to do. MLE and its eaters made competitive eating. That’s a fact. What you and the other organizations want is to make quick “Powerball” type money based on the cred established by MLE through a lesser competitive eating product for “fame or fortune.” In the end that type behavior will hurt all of competitive eating eventually raise the skepticism of any potential competitive eating fans. AICE and APE both falsly claim they have the best eaters and organization in the world to attract sponsors for events. How does the “Big Eaters Club” intend to differ from ACE and APE to attract new contests? Come to this event featuring members of the “Big Eaters Club” because “The Big Eaters” are very average at eating? Why would a sponsor pay for that event?

GLUT–the term “For Fortune” outlines the description of the challenge. “Don’t quit your day job just yet, only Joey does this for a living. However from reimbursement to gift certificate to cold hard cash, these challenges pay out if you succeed”.

If you take a look at the site, the descriptions are self-explanatory. Sorry if the creative muse to describe a “for Fortune” challenge steered you wrong…breathe.

The entire purpose of the club was to get like-minded people together in the area and have fun. A secondary goal is to support local businesses by promoting their challenge menu items and maybe help organize a fun eating event to promote their business.
No competition with MLE or IFCO. No grandiose claims of having the “best eaters”. Simply a group of folks in the area who like eating challenges.

Does that clear things up? Hope so.

Glut maybe you should start focusing on shutting down all baseball leagues except MLB, all soccer leagues except MLS and all hockey leagues except NHL. There can only be one of each, right? All these other sports leagues, clubs and groups prove that “In the end that type behavior will hurt all of any sport and eventually raise the skepticism of any potential sports fans.”, right? You are so far from center your screen name should be Akin although its pretty clear who you are.

@Max – Good to see you’re new here and taking comments with a grain of salt. Thin skin doesn’t survive around here. Welcome to the “club”.
