The Brooklyn Paper has an article about the new post-Kobayashi Nathan's wall with a picture of the completed mural. Sonya Thomas, Tim Janus, Pat Bertoletti, Crazy Legs Conti, Tim Brown, Juliet Lee and Joey Chestnut remain. No new eaters were added. Animal New York has a picture of the previous wall.

I wonder what IFOCE sees in CLC? Maybe it is because of the book he wrote or his outrageous personality. That’s unfortunate if true, because there is no need for IFOCE to become like the WWE, where the hyper-masculinized athletes and hyper-sexualized women have outrageous costumes and nicknames. I would prefer a more “upscale” image for the sport, along the line of golf or pocket billiards. I would prefer the focus to be on eating and the hearts of the competitors, rather than gimmicks, pagentry, or shtick.
As an example of what at least some fans prefer, let me recount a story: in 2006 I was at the gym in the free weights sections (yes I used to lift regularly), and I overheard some guys making fun of Tim Janus. They said there was this guy who painted his face and called himself “Eater X”, and that the Shea’s announced he came from the “wings circuit”. They immediately recognized all of that as BS, claiming there was no such thing as the “wings circuit” and burst out laughing at what a joke “Major League Eating” was. I had to agree: the Shea’s hyperbole, though perhaps entertaining to some, was a turn-off to others and made competitive eating seem like more of a spectacle than athletic endeavor.

I don’t see CE ever going in the direction of golf. Can you imagine people being asked to please be quiet throughout a 10 min event. I think that because CE is on the fringe, it makes it interesting.

As soon as CLC got his feet wet in the IFOCE they had big big plans to make him the media darling of the sport. It has been that way for quite some time now going back as far as 2003. IFOCE.com used to promote all of his upcoming television appearances thinking that everyone in the organization would be proud of his accomplishments. At the beginning they did but after repeated mention people started getting sick and tired of seeing his name and Janus in the spotlight. It was like eating spaghetti every day, Never gave others a chance. Conti Janus Conti Janus Conti Janus with Rhonda Evans whoever the hell she is, defending both of them (especially Conti ) to the hilt!

Crazy Legs was already an entertainer and filmmaker when he joined. He brought a lot of contacts to IFOCE when he signed on. He is not the only one to give a good interview for sure, but he makes himself available and does a lot behind the scenes for others. He doesn’t cancel on things and doesn’t slam people. He isn’t the best eater but he certainly is loyal and can be counted on and can pull out the stops and make a great showing if not a show. He probably doesn’t whine and he supports his fellow eaters instead of tearing them down.

Come on, who wrote this – Legs, Tim, his girlfriend, mom, or someone at MLE?
That’s just TOO funny. All you need to know is what you’ve seen in the videos or if you been on the receiving end of some of his “support.” God knows he “does a lot behind the scenes” – ask some of those that have received his “help.” If he “doesn’t slam people,” it’s only because he has someone else that “can be counted on” to do that. Be very, very grateful if neither one of them decides to “support” you “a lot behind the scenes.”

Pondering yes CLC is a good interview Yes CLC never cancels and shows up on time. Yes he will give you the last dime he has in his pocket. Yes he is a giving person. Yes he will grab every bit of spotlight that is thrown his way. Yes he will step on anyone toes to get what he wants without even thinking about apologizing. Yes he has no guilt feeling about taking front and centerstage on the Nathans billboard. Whats next? CLC poster image on the subways buses and telephone booths?

Next year we can expect to see Beautiful Brian to be on the wall, with him front & center the following year. He’s as good an eater as Crazy/Lazy legs & as he’d probably tell you, just as personable.
