This is the look of the future of CE. Cut the promoter out. Why pay thousands for a one man carnival announcer, too do what, manipulate results and tell jokes?

Hey what you talking about Behold the Future? This contest paid for by Milo Franks. It is his love of all things franks that make this contest special. Results thought controlled by the judges. Check out the rules and entry form at http://www.bigfun.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/California-State-Corn-Dog-Eating-Contest-edits.pdf. Enjoy all!!

22 corndogs in 8 minutes is what took home the bacon in 2012 all $2,500.00 so please join in the fun on July 19 & 20 at Cal Expo.

This is certainly interesting but not because of the first commenter who is saying without naming names that MLE is going to be replaced by contests like the Cal State Fair with big prizes. Not the same at all. Read the rules for many reasons including the dress code. That is a lot of prize money for sure. If you can qualify and pass the first stage for entry, how to dress (kind of open to interpretation) and can eat at that level, this could be a bonanza. But suppose you pay to go there and are deemed to be dressed in less than family friendly fashion. And there is an entry fee. Sounds like a great contest overall, but do read. EMT on site I will assume. They would not take the risk of not doing that. This is a great opportunity for some eaters.

Wow, Milo’s really stepped it up and took advice from some of us. The owner really wanted to make this a huge event and said he was impressed by the few of us that came out last year (Dahl, myself, Ross and two other locals that beat both Kevin and I) that he wanted to make it larger and larger each year.
Yes EMT’s were presnet, he was a very nice guy. I know Jamie and Dave Brunelli had put in submissions last year but because of the prize structure ($2500 for first and I think $300 for second) most likely backed out. This year though the prize money/structure is better than a lot of regular MLE events. It’ll be interesting to see who shows this year…
Though, the qualifying round 2 days before I’m still not a fan of (last year it was the day before).

@ Damon- said not a fan of qualifying day? what would be best for those wanting to compete? This year can’t change the date but… The reason for us to have qualifying so close was that those that want to compete from other states would not have to travel back n forth. overnight stay–eat n go home hopefully with money!!!
Milo enjoys giving back and what better way than to sponsor this contest! it’s about having fun at the fair and the crowd loves it!! Nor is Milo’s Corn Dogs n Pizza able to compete with MLE nor would he want to…just about having fun.!!! California state fair what better place to compete!!
The prize money is awesome this year…too bad Chestnut and Stonie are MLE’s the contest would be awesome if they participated!! Stonie entered in Tehama Co before he was MLE and won the contest with 18..
There’s time to enter….Dress code is basically no offensive clothing, don’t want to see CRACK…, look at pics or videos of previous events…AGAIN—it’s about fun for the audience to watch YOU compete!!! SEE YOU THERE 🙂

@Georgeanne
I completely understand why there has to be a qualifying round. Speaking for myself as an eater sometimes it’s hard enough to commit one day to compete, but committing 2 days is really tough. A lot of us like to just “eat and go” not “stay, eat and go”. Maybe have a 2 minute qualifying round earlier in the day then the 8 minute contest later that same day.
Again, this is jusy my own opinion. Glad to see such nice prize money being offered up.
