“Cheap Seats” to feature Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest
“Cheap Seats” is a show on ESPN classic which aims to be the sports equivalent of Mystery Science Theater 3000. The program stars two comedians who watch old footage of minor sports and make comments they consider humerous. The third season of “Cheap Seats” opens Monday at 10 pm eastern and will feature Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating contest. It is not stated what year’s contest will be used, but it will be either 2004 or 2005 since those are the only two years that ESPN has broadcast the event. The show is 30 minutes so probably only the actual contest will be rerun with none of the accompanying profiles. If the “Cheap Seats” comedians are having writers block thinking of witty insults about IFOCE members, AICE would probably be happy to contribute some.

Mystery science theatre also appeared on comedy central and poked fun at at B rated 60’s science fiction movies .Cheap seats is a cheap takeoff on that show but what disturbs me most about it is the fact that in the case of Mystery science theatre you dont mind watching them poke fun at bad horror movies but some of the shows on ESPN classic happened to be quite good and these two morons look to find anything negative& comical about the shows. For instance, Superstars 1973 was one of my favorite shows back then and they mock and ridicule Rotunda Fla (setting for the show) as being a swampland and resembles a correctional facility for prisoners. Then they make fun of boxing champ Joe Frazier who happened to be 28 and in tip top shape back then but finished dead last in swimming and they got a good laugh on that. I could just imagine what kind of remarks they have planned for the Nathans hot dog contest. More than likely they will poke fun at certain eaters which is not nice because some of which i wont mention names are very sensitive and might get their feelings hurt.
