chron.com: tamale contest to be covered by ESPN
Chron.com has an article about Houston Cinco de Mayo festivities with a paragraph about the tamale contest:
A professional tamale-eating contest will debut at the Cinco de Mayo festival this year and will be covered by ESPN. Berryhill Baja Grill coordinated the contest with the International Federation of Competitive Eating. Seven of the top 10 competitive eaters will compete to see who can eat the most tamales in 12 minutes, Lopez said. Last year the winner ate 57 tamales in 12 minutes, he said.
No tamale eating contest appears on the ESPN or ESPN2 schedule for this weekend

Sounds like reporter error. They probably said the eaters that are on ESPN will be there and assumed it’ll be on ESPN.

Two other errors… 7 of the top 10 will not be there and the winner did not eat 57 tamales last year. Sounds like the reporter made a bunch of stuff up just to get people there.

So many of these reporters are truly awful journalists. This one didn’t do her homework at all. Shameful.

The official press release says the contest will air on ESPN “at a later date” — so maybe we can give the Chron a little credit…

Hey, Patrick Michels. Let’s not give them credit. They’re wrong.
