Bates College in Lewiston, Maine has started a competitive eating club called the FatCats. The club is billed as the second collegiate competitive eating club in the USA (the University of Maryland was the first).

I must of missed this item from several days ago. Mark my words, once one of these college clubs or that APE college league has a tragedy, competitive eating contests will, for the most part, disappear. You know these kids don’t have EMTs on site and you can bet these kids are combining their “contests” with drinking. Politicians, school organizations, every “think-about-our-children” do gooder, “60 Minutes” type news shows, etc. will get involved trying to ban eating contests. MLE might survive, because they provide the necessary protections and would be sited for their safety measures in any story about a kid that gets hurt. As we all know, the Japanese once had an unfortunate tragedy with kids and Japanese contests basically went away. If APE had any credibility, it would take down any reference to their college league. I’m not wishing anything bad for anybody, but something bad to happen is inevitable.
