Competitive Eating fan sought for “Dr. Keith Ablow Show”

Megamunch reports that the following comment was left on his blog:

I’m writing from the Dr. Keith Ablow show in NYC, a nationally syndicated talk show produced for FOX. We will be doing a show about competitive eating on Feb. 20th. We’d like to feature a fan who idolizes Ed “Cookie” Jarvis or Tim Janus along with others, who’d like to start competiting in the sport. If anyone is interested please email me at:

You would have a few takers if it was Kobe, Sonya or even Crazylegs. You might have a shot w/the 2 you brought up.

I am not saying anyone idolizes me, so let me nip that in the bud right away

The only ones who might still remember Cookie at least for the record are few and far between. Eater X is coming on strong though.

Ed Jarvis was the greatest eater of all time. No one had more records than he did. When I lived in New York, I used to go to the Nathans contest every independence day with my children. One year he threw a signed t-shirt to me and I was hooked. Last year was the first year I couldn’t get to Brooklyn for the contest. I felt home-sick for Cookie and joined my first competitive event, wore his shirt to it, and I didn’t do to badly. I’ve been in a few contests since, but never done as well. I got my daughter, who is a more conventional athlete to try a restaurant eating challenge, she did very well, and developed a new respect for competitive eating. My ambition is to compete at Nathans big table one day. I don’t think any of the new breed of eaters will have his staying power, and none of them have his carisma.

Why would i suggest Ed Jarvis was the greatest eater of all time? What are you smokin Menchetti. I’ve attended two Nathans finals in my life One was 1976 for the bicentennial as a teenage observer and the other one was 1997 because Ed Krachie asked me to show.Because of my lousy luck that i can never qualify for the damn thing I usually have family plans every 4th of July or i have a nice comfortable seat at home to view it .For me to just stand out there as a spectator in all the years i have been involved with the sport is really beneath me dont you think?

Cookie Jarvis is an Competitive Eating Icon who paved the way for the new eaters just like Ed “the animal” Kratchie and Mike “the scholar” DeVito paved the way for eaters like Cookie and myself. Great Icons are never forgotten. ‘Nuff Said.

I was never contacted or notified by anyone from this talk show and my name is not Frankie . I can tell you for a fact that two or three unamed eaters were contacted about appearing on the show . One of the eaters practically hung up on them when he was told what it was all about. I can almost bet that one of the three would brace a snowstorm or hurricane to be on this show . I like Ed Jarvis he was a very good competitive eater but i am not about to kiss anyone’s ass on any show Nuff said !

I have never heard of this show. I doubt it will attract any heavy hitters today. This is beneath them.
