Crazy Legs Conti makes front page of amNY
Crazy Legs Conti appears on the front page of today’s amNY newspaper. An article about his training for the Nathan’s finals appears in that issue, along with a slideshow, video and chronology of hot dog eating innovations which lists Conti’s new technique
2007- Crazy Legs Conti turns the bun inside out for greater dunking surface area and calls the technique “Reverse Bunning.”

I think it’s when you flip the bun around, so that the inside of the bun is on the outside. Basically, with the soft bready part on the outside you can soak up more water and eat faster.

Wouldn’t consider that an article, more like a blog comment. That guy gets paid to write? I am impressed with Conti’s capacity, however with as long as he has been eating, it could be higher. Not impressed with his speed. A minute 20 for five Nathans HDB without even clearing? That also could be better, especially with him using that one handed hot dog breaking technology.

Crazy Legs can do about anything media-wise and is perhaps the third or fourth most recognized figure in competitive eating. I don’t know if he gets paid for writing or not, but if he doesn’t, he should, because he is as talented as any other sports writer out there, based on the articles I’ve read that he’s written in the last few years.
Carey had you been following Crazy Legs and perhaps the sport for more than a couple of years, you’d know that Crazy Legs’ gustatory improvement may not be rapid, but it is very steady and consistent. He has gone from 15-16 HDBs in 2002/2003 to his current level of 24/25. That shows what enthusiasm and heart can do.
The life span for an eater in the sport is usually only about 3 or 4 years, because they peak and then decline in talent, and then drop out. (Just look at most of the old school greats for proof of that.) The most notable exceptions are Kobayashi, Rich LeFevre, Crazy Legs, Joe Menchetti, and Sonya Thomas (and probably Tim Janus). Those five are very special in that regard. The jury is still out on Joey and Pat B.

Please, Rhonda. It would only have taken you one click of the mouse to read the article and see what I was talking about. Please do that now, I will wait.
I wouldn’t have referred to Conti as “That guy.” Yes, we all know who he is, and he is a great guy. Please don’t make me trash him in order to defend what I said or to correct what you are saying either. All I said was that after 5 years…….
Also, does anyone need to follow for more than two years to have an educated opinion? Could this be the only way of disqualifying my arguement?

Sorry Carey. I understand.

It’s getting hot in here. And it’s making me hungry.
I agree that “only” a few years of CE following is more than enough knowledge to form an educated opinion. I think that was an overstatement on Rhonda’s part. I’ve only been following the sport for a little over a year (it feels like much longer though) and Carey was only bitten by the CE bug a mere three or four months ago when I contaminated him. Sites like Eat Feats make it easy for new fans to learn about the eaters and history and, of course, statitics needed to become a well informed fan.
Anyhow, even if Legs can “only” do 25 dogs, his impact and value on the sport (thanks to his personality and media savvy) FAR exceeds his capabilities as an eater. If I were forming a new league today, I’d take Crazy Legs over ANY other American eater.

I just saw the Dani Franco bunnete video. It blows Liz’ away. (& hers is pretty good) The funniest part is when the narrator talks about ‘how she got stuck with this loser Crazylegs Conti’ The narrator isn’t credited, but it is Crazylegs!
Great Job!!

The guy that wrote the crazy legs article tried calling my cell on June 25 i assume this would have included me in the writeup. I did an interview with him last year or the year before. He does an outstanding job. I highly doubt i would have gotten front page billing. Crazy Legs is better looking than i am at this stage of the game. If you miss his call(Justin) it is very hard to reach him . You will hear his voice mail more than you will ever hear him live. This newspaper is distributed free all over NYC and very informative .
